Default throttle whip and a clunk?

howdy

i have about 21 k on my 2010 XC - dealer serviced and nothing but hit the key and ride...

i am about 1.5 k after the most recent service....

i did notice something yesterday - about 90m up in the canyons....

i was giving a few gentle bumps coming to a intersection...now then - i do not really use engine braking and will typically roll into stops with the clutch pulled in and down shifting...front brake mostly with a light touch on the rear.... i was bumping her a little...and noticed a sound exactly like shaft/belt lash each time ... it was pretty slight but new.....it seemed to come and go and not associated with any specific gear....my current thoughts are a clutch adjustment????

any comments or similar experieces??

I have noticed a little "belt whip" occasionally, I just attribute it to being in too high a gear for the speed I was doing.

Him: 2011 XC Pearl White/Silver
Her: 2013 XC Sunset Red

howdy and thanks for responding - in this specific case - the clutch is pulled and i am coasting...with gentle throttle bumps...

2010's not only have a presumedly stronger tranny (albeit noisey with straight cut gears) but also have considerable drivetrain lash. The tranny redesign for 2011's cut rid of 80% (I think) of the lash so there is a good possibility that this is what you are feeling. Basicaly lash is slack in the drivetrain so in certain conditions you will still feel it when you're off the throttle.

thanks ammo - got that part - what i am trying to describe is a noise similar to lash - but i have the clutch pulled and am coasting...say 20mph or so - bumping the throttle a bit - as i roll to a stop.

Victory motorcycles for whatever reason do not like the throttle bump. It creates a fueling stumble in the motor and could very well be what you are experiencing. They are definitely not like a lot of other bike in this regard. Many folks have had to relearn to not blip the throttle when riding a Victory. I never really did it anyway so not much of an issue.

howdy wilcon and thanks for the response

i am all checked out on the fuel stumble (i call it a cough) at throttle bump issues - learned from the experience of several near dumps at intersection turns and (gasp) ONE gas pump cement post - and so i too had to re-train to not do this in turns/leans....

what i am trying to describe is the sound one hears for shaft of belt lash - which my shaft honda had and this bike has but to a much lesser extent - in gear....in this case - i am hearing but not so much feeling (the clutch is pulled in/disengaged) - the slight clunk with a slight blip - while rolling...and i believe it is new....thanks again for responding....

Same thing on our 2012cct. It comes and goes sounds like a compensator to me
