Default Bag lid stops

Hey guys, is it just me or do some of you draw up every time someone opens your bags and you're thinking dont let it swing open!?
Well my kids ride with me a lot and every time my daughter opens my bag I about freak. I think every time the lid is just gonna break off. So ive been thinking of trying to make some sort of stop or retainer to keep the lid from just flopping open. Does anyone else have a solution or idea on this?
I'll keep this updated on my trial and error on my own solution.

Default I get nervous too

Yeah, the bag lids do seem to be at risk when allowed to just swing open. I haven't come up with any good ideas - only had my 2013 XC for a couple of months. Be interested to see if anyone comes up with a good solution.

I thought about a tether when I first got mine. I kinda got sidetracked especially after addressing the other bag issues. Maybe if they ever redesign the saddlebags they'll improve the latches and striker plates, lid to bag seal fitment, and add a tether to the lid. Something like this.

Yeah I started trying to come up with something after seeing my brothers street glide. This is probably the only area HD has a plus over us.

The newer (2014 and ↑) HD bags are better than the Vic bags in many ways except carrying capacity. The new one hand latch is nice no more needing both hands to open the bags, the lids fit tight like Tupperware and I'm sure they seal much better. The don't wear out latches like the Vics do. And of course the tether to support the lids while open. The Vic lids are basically an over sized umbrella that doesn't even make an attempt to closely fit the bags...lol.

Weather strip. I put open cell self stick around mine from day one and seals great, no rattle, dust, and helped stop the latch from wearing.

Could maybe make something like that using a little piece of screen printed material, sew some heavy duty Velcro to two opposite sides and secure that Velcro with High Bond 3M VHB tape to the top of the lid and the side of the bag..

Secured across 7 or 8 square inches on the inside of the bag and top of the lid, it should hold up to any force short of really forcing down on it..

Don't look too complicated to make, just more ensuring a good anchor to the surfaces..

Could, also use a GoPro tether or fishing leader hooked to the bag latch and catch but that may likely get in the way..

Looks like we need us a Ricz on the job
