Default XC Drivers Backrest Mount/ Pad Issues

I recently purchased the Cross Bikes Lock & Ride Drivers Backrest Mount and Pad and when I went to install it yesterday I ran into quite a few issues. Bear with me....

1. The mount is too wide for where it bolts under the seat. Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to this and it damaged the sheathing (convoluted tubing) on the harness side and gouged the hard line on the other side. I found some information on the other forum and people were cutting the mount on each side to fit.

2. The mount has no bottom, meaning the seat post can slide all the way down until it hits the inner fender under the seat.

3. The seat post is vertically adjustable, but there is no positive locking mechanism. There are indents in the seat post but it moves up and down fairly freely.

4. The seat post has a hole in the very bottom. No idea what that's for.

I can post pics later for clarification if needed, but I'm hoping someone may have answers. Anyone else experience these issues or have some clarification? It almost seems like my parts are not correct.

Yep, it's a really shitty design. Allowing the post to contact (or even push through) the fender is just piss-poor engineering.
I did squish the portion of the wiring harness that runs under the mounting bracket with no ill effect. There isn't as much inside the conduit as you may expect.
For the backrest itself, I found the best height for me and marked the post at the point it contacts the top of the mount. Then I wrapped a few layers of black duck tape around the post to prevent it from sliding down any further into the mount. The tape barely shows above the hole in the seat. 99.9% of people won't notice it.
I can post a picture tonight when I get home from work if you like, but marking the post and wrapping tape isn't complicated...

That's okay, don't waste your time taking any pictures. I understand what you are saying.

I think my plan is to grind the edges off the mount, then get someone to weld a plate on the bottom so that it cannot slide down further. Then I'll cut the post to length.

Or I'll sell it and keep the Grasshopper one that I already have.

That backrest was one of the two accessories I bought upon delivery of the bike. I took it home as it was an easy install. Right away I was scratching my head at the way the bracket mounted especially the left side. The edge of the bracket was laying right over the hard brake lines and a harness so I made sure not to over tighten it there. Well....that did me no good because now the dealer has been chasing a ground short which was blowing the 20amp acc. fuse causing the access. outlet and rear speakers to become inop. So leaning back on the rest smashed the wiring harness.

Guess what, warranty won't cover it. Surprise. Shitty manufacturing IMO

Still love the bike though
