Default amps

I know nothing about amps. That said, what does 2 channel and 4 channel mean? If I run a 2 channel amp on my cross country, will the speakers in the trunk still work but without any amplification? Sorry if this is really basic, but again, I know nothing.

2 channel = 2 speakers (left & right)
4 channel = 4 speakers (left & right, front & back)

Thanks. That's what I thought. I assume that you can run a 4 channel amp with only two speakers (like when my trunk is removed)

Yes. I have an amp under the fairing but only the two 6.5" front speakers are hooked up to it. The speakers in the trunk work fine when I put it on which isn't often. It's also why I elected to not hook them up.
