Default XR clutch

Which is better , in the long run....EZ pull addition or hydraulic conversion.

Mine doesn't feel [that] tight. But I have heard so much about cables breaking ........TIA

I put the hydraulic clutch conversion on and it reduced the pull by quite a bit, it also made for smoother engagement as well (from what I can tell).

Doing a side by side comparison with my buddies XCT, it was easy to see.

Knowing what I do now, if I got another XC, it would be one of my first mods.

The above being said, I never tried the easy pull, I read some guys had trouble getting it adjusted correctly.

I had a hell-for-stout clutch pull and installed an EZ-Pull--what a big difference that made. Cheaper and much easier to install than a hydraulic. If you keep the cable ends cleaned and lubed, chances are you won't experience breakage. I had just short of 30K w/o any cable problems, but installed a Barnett just cuz a member posted that it made the pull lighter, and it did.
My recommendation to you; Unless you have money to spend and love bike projects, go with an EZ-Pull and carry that cable repair kit--I can't think of its name right now, something like Repair Your Ride.

I installed a hydraulic clutch because I didn't want to deal with a cable breaking. The last bike I had with a cable clutch was my 1981 Honda CB750C that I picked up in 1998. The next 3 bikes all had hydraulic clutch.

I've used my saveyourride twice. Once you've done it, it only takes a few minutes. I got 16k out the first original cable. 64 k out of the second. I lubed the ends on the second one every couple of thousand miles. I never lubed the first one.

JMO, long run..hydraulic.

I just installed a "smooth shift" (aka ezpull) from Whitewall Choppers. I'd say it cut the pull resistance by 40-50%. Biggest trick was readjusting the clutch to the engage and disengage point as installing it required letting the clutch cable out quite a bit. Cost was about $70.00 and maybe a total of 40 minutes actual install and adjustment time.
Bike has 16500 on it, original cable.

In case you haven't figured it out, these ez pull items work the same as a longer breaker (or a pipe) bar on a wrench to give you more leverage than the cable right off the clutch arm.

I'd really rather have had the hydraulic clutch but with our daughter getting married (as of today in 9 days) the extra $ for the hydraulic just isn't in the budget.

Hydraulic clutches fail,and when they do its harder to bodge to get you home.
