Question on Bars....?

Since I'm now returning the $535 Arai helmet I want to use the $$ to do something I've had my mind on for quite a while. Help me out with this, thanks.
I want to change the bars. I've been running my stock set in a slightly elevated position since year one. l'd like these things from the new bar: 1. Slightly more pull back 2. Better wrist angle 3. Better looks and 4. Utilize the stock cables.
Any suggestions?
thanks

I'll likely be going with a hydraulic clutch also.

How's the hand angles compared to stock? Any chance you could post a pic of your bars?

You'll just have to ride my Heli-Bar-equipped XCT one of these days, and see what you think. Unless you don't want to part with quite that much coin.

Yea..I just can't spring for Heli's :(
I'm leaning toward the Ness Modulars in black, but that is at the top of my price range.

...and I don't believe I have ever met Bill. We should plan something.

Just put a set of taranz on my 14cc. What a great add to my bike. Amazed at how much better it feels as I had no complaints before. Am short at 5'8" so I went 2 back 1 up. Couldn't be happier with them and Vicbaggers is tremendous. Ric helped me find the custom color I wanted and made it super easy.

They look great and aren't expensive either. I might have a winter project lol

As long as we're going to go there how fast does a nit age????

#14 ·
I believe the formula is something like:

2d+p=n

where d = dog, p = person, n = nit

Makes perfect sense but I suck at that ****

Hey PaiN, have you looked at the victory mitered mini apes?

#26 · (Edited)
I was looking at both "ape" bars Vic sells just yesterday....I have the Victory catalog in the basket right next to the toilet :p

It's too bad you want black Ness Modular bars. I got some new-to-me but used bars similar to the FMB bars posted above and plan on selling my chrome Ness Modulars once I change them out. Anyone else interested in them; I'll be selling them for $250 shipped to CONUS plus whatever extra it cost to send them outside the lower 48. The nice thing about the Modular bars is they can be shipped in a much smaller box than regular bars but they still weigh quite a bit.

Didn't mean to hijack this thread though. Best of luck in whatever you decide Pain.
I'd snap those up from you in a second but I don't think chrome bars will match with my blacked out bike.....Hmmm, or would they?
Let me think about this, I do have chrome accents....I'm open to opinions from the peanut gallery also.

I also have that Sunset Red paint kit due in.....Bbob, when do you think you'll be ready to sell? and I want first dibbies

Tarzanz

I ordered a brake-away cruise control because fingers on my right hand would go numb after a couple hours. I ordered the wrong one and during the exchange process I replaced the stock bars with the the Tarzanz bars. Windshield Vehicle Bicycle handlebar Glass Tree
Problem solved without the cruise control.

My vote is for Kewlmetals Meathooks..........ahhhh well you may not want to deal with that since the question is now out wether or not they are still in business as a few of their sites appear down. I like mine. So Vicbaggers Tarzanz guys are happy and they are a great business to deal with. Here are some close bets for us MeatHook kinda guys.................
Rusty Jones "Outlaw" Bars Outlaw Bars ? Rusty Jones Customs
FMB and their "1.5 inch Phatt Monkey Apehangers"
VICTORY CROSS COUNTRY 1-1/2 PHATT MONKEY APE HANGERS CUSTOM HAND, Harley Custom Handlebars- Custom ape hangers
Thats all I got .......have a great search.

You are correct, I haven't messed with the neck stuff at all. I did look into the isolators that were mentioned and for 25 bucks a set, it may be something I do anyway. Maybe my cheap torque wrench was not in spec. I will re-torque the bolts again.

Thanks!

I was just trying to be helpful. To me it sounded like his bushing were bad.
Sometimes going to a taller bar or a heavier bar will bring out the weak bushings. Bars should not move whatsoever. If they do it shouldn't be no more then a 32 of an inch

I'm talking about squeezing the bars together, by pushing (hard) simultaneously on both bar ends, toward each other. I think that's what @TUGG was talking about. Is that what you're talking about, too, re 1/32"? (That is, I'm trying to make sure we're all on the same page here.)

Sorry it took me so long but here is a few pics.

Thanks for the pics, they helped me make one decision....I don't want "meat hook" type bars. They are not my style.

#34 ·
I can tell you that with my bars they are way stiffer than the originals and I notice it in the reaction of the bike and noticeably less vibration at the grips. Feels better by alot and all I was looking for was a new look.

#35 ·
Good to know, re the Tarzanz. Probably thicker tubing, and certainly no pivot joints like the Helis. That may be one of the few shortcomings of the Helis, if someone is sensitive to vibration (or has an unusually rough-running engine).

I sprung for the HeliBars. Harry was offering 1/2 price on installations & live 20 minutes away. I will never regret spending the money on these bars. I'm 3" back & 1" up from stock bars with a much better grip angle.

Forgot to mention. All Stock cables.

I can't find too much info on these Klock Werks Klip Hanger bars, but we all know Klock Werks stands behind their products and make some good ****
As broggy said, they "look like Heli-Bars at half the cost". I personally think they look better than the industrial Heli's. I went with the black with chrome knuckles. Also snagged a Barnett clutch cable. $490 shipped for both....got love e-bay.

KlipHanger Bars for Victory

I'm going away at the end of the month, I doubt I'll be able to get these installed until August but I'll be reporting back with a review.

You should like those PaiN. They are basically the same as the Ness Modular bars like I have/had.

Edit: Just in case other readers think they are anything like the Heli Bars; they are not. They are a copy of the Ness Modular bars with a slightly different design. I don't like it when someone copies someone elses design and changes it just enough to not be the same and that's exactly what Klockwerks did in this case.

Just be aware they are not like the Heli Bars at all. It's extremely important future buyers are aware of this fact. They are a copy of the Ness Modular bars with a tiny difference in design.

Since I'm being straight up about this product; the Ness design is way better in my humble opinion it both looks and function. This product has the Heli bar look which is not desirable to most people but are acceptable to those who care more about function than looks.

I believe it's important future buyers are aware of these facts so they are armed with the knowledge to make an informed purchase.

First the comparison is only broggy's opinion... There is clearly greater differences than looks and price.
Heli's have an adjustment that neither the Ness or Klock Werks bars do. That is horizontal angle of the grip section. Hopefully that angle will be good(better than the stock bars) on the Klip Hangers.
The reason I chose these over the Ness bars is because, the Klock Werks can actually be adjusted closer to or farther from the rider without moving the height of the bars. I'm sure I can find "just the right spot" with these bars.

Send 'em to me. I'll test 'em out real good like and wear them in for when you get back. :)
Thanks for the offer but sorry buddy, while checking these out I didn't find one thing about them needing a wear in period.... :wink

one more thingie....

What's involved in running the wiring internally through the bars on our X-bikes? Is it a major job of splitting and splicing into the wiring harness or are there connectors?
thanks

Something didn't sound right about this so I checked again and I was right to begin with. You can see in this picture the grip angle can only be changed front to back and not tilted up and down. This is exactly like the Ness bars. The Ness bars also allow a little bit of up and down adjustment. Probably not as much as the Klock bars but then again most people would want them at their highest position otherwise they would have stayed with the stock bars. I also think they should have put the grip part of the bars on the front instead of in back of the upright bars in order to have more pull back. I guess they could be assembled that way. They are clearly well made and a good product but again; people should not think they have the level of adjustment the Heli bars do. No offense meant PaiN. Just want buyers to understand they aren't getting Heli bars at half price.

Your looking at it upside down and I think you're getting goofed up on terms. The grip sections and move in the vertical but not the horizontal. The grips can also be moved on the larger limbs to be closer or farther from the rider.
I have no intention in having these bars in their "highest position" like ape hangers....I bought them to find a more comfortable riding position, have a more solid bar and a better look.
I wish I never brought the damn Heli bars into this conversation, I agree they don't belong here.
