Default The Dealership Made Me An Offer I Couldn't Refuse

So while boondocking out in the Arizona desert a week or so ago a buddy of mine who is an engineer at Harley Davidson sent me a news link regarding the demise of Victory. Needless to say I wasn't happy but oh well whatcha gonna do right?

I got back to civilization a day or so later and on Friday the 13th I stopped by the local Vic dealership where I'd purchased my 2013 Cross Country three years ago and asked the sales manager if the half price sale had started yet.

Long story short, he quoted me a price that I couldn't pass up on a zero mile 2017 Cross Country in suede white. I'm not a fan of the suede paint style but hey it's a zero mile last production year bike and I wanted white in the first place three years ago.

So far the weather has sucked since last Wednesday when I picked it up but I've managed to get 150 miles or so on it between rain storms and I must say "I'm impressed!!" I'm not getting the popping on it with ethanol fuel (no choice in this part of the country) and the transmission is butter smooth by comparison. I had them install a Stage 1 on it simply because my old one had it and I liked the difference it made.

So for those of you out there who might have the inclination keep in mind that the dealerships got surprised by this just like you and I and at least the one I deal with was NOT happy about the announcement.

Congrats on the new ride. I saw one at my dealership the other day and it did stand out but then so did the other X bikes. You should be good to go for at least 10, maybe even 20, years depending on how many miles you put on per year.

Beautiful bike. Suede paints are easy to maintain. Get you some Wizard's Wipe Down for between washing. Never polish/ wax it. I've been very happy with my paint. http://wizardsproducts.com/motorcycle-wipe-down-22-oz/

One benefit to our white bikes is that coming up from behind a car on the highway, drivers think you are a cop and move out of your way....I am constantly impressed as to how much more visible this bike is vs my older black bike...people just move on the left lane way in advance..

So I'll add a bit here to the original post.

I've known the sales manager at AZ West (local Vic dealer) for a few years and he's always treated me good. While we were kicking the deal around he lets me know that the accessories I have on my old bike are basically worthless as far as trade in value, which I already knew. He told me that it would be a good idea to pull what ever I wanted with the exception of the exhaust prior to bringing it in for trade. I spent the day before I picked up the new one stripping off things like fork leg wind deflectors, passenger floor boards, handlebar mounts for GPS/phone and cup holder and even pulled my 1/4 turn throttle ring which was a pain in the ass. I got a strange look from the service manager when I asked him to pull the passenger foot pegs off the new bike when they had it in the shop 'cause the one I was bringing him didn't have any.

It's interesting to note that I haven't ridden my bike without the fork leg wind deflectors for almost 30k miles. Spending just one day without those things made me a firm believer in them. The amount of wind that they eliminate is amazing even around town.

On the downside I think the only thing they did to it during pre-delivery prep was to install the Stage 1. The tires were both below 30 psi, the belt was out of spec by a bunch and the rear wheel was misaligned pretty bad too. There's a reason I really don't trust dealerships to work on my bike unless I absolutely have to. Fortunately I've got a friend with a lift down here so I could be the beast off the ground and adjust the belt and I didn't have to lay my poor old body on the floor to re-install my heal shifter.

My screen name is deceiving, I spent 20 years as a commercial photographer but got out a long time ago. Having said that, I'm not a big picture person so I didn't bother to take a side by side with the new and old bike. I did find this one from last year that I took south of Roswell NM.
