Default ARGHH!! Another Check Engine Light On '17 XC

I threw another check engine light this morning and this time it came out of the blue. I haven't washed the bike in a couple of weeks, it hasn't rained and the humidity is in the single digits here in Arizona.

After I pulled into the garage I ran through the dash indicators and it states:

Error Code 3
520209

I did a quick Google search and only came up with a 2014 Injun code description which states Oxygen Sensor Heater 1 (pre) (front)

If the Injun sheet is the same as Victory then am I to assume that this is an O2 sensor and more than likely the forward one??

I'm gonna call the dealership but I'm getting ready to punch out for a few days and it would be nice to know that it won't leave me on the side of the road somewhere. This is starting to get old, my 2013 never so much as hiccuped but this 2017 is a little finicky from the looks of it.

Why don't you just unplug the O2s?? The bike runs better without them! It's just EPA garbage anyways!

Is there a way around that? I was going to do that on my 2017 Vision.

From what I have seen, the 16 and 17 vics will throw an engine code of you unplug the O2s. I am sure there's a way around it, but I don't know off hand what it is...

We need to get one of the nerds a CPU out of a wrecked '16(up) so they can "explore" the code.

At the risk of drifting my own thread and regardless of the fact that "it's not that simple" I choose not to meddle with what engineers have spent countless hours designing and testing to make an engine run at its most efficient fuel air mixture. O2 sensors are not simply emmissions gadgets put in place to befuddle, confuse and de-tune an engine. Can the Victory engine be made to put out more horsepower? Sure!! But it takes more than fiddling with the O2 sensors to do it.

A previous comment stated that the engine will run better. How so?? Diminished fuel mileage? Flat spots in the power band? These are just two of the possibilities that can result from just "unplugging" the O2 sensors. My bike runs very well on premium branded nom-ethanol fuel (note I said Branded fuel i.e. Top Tier). A lot of the engine issues people are trying to solve by attempting to out think the engineers is caused by inferior fuels.

So back to the topic at hand. Does anybody know if the error codes for Injuns are compatible with Victory? The dealership of course wasn't much help over the phone, they want me to bring it in and I just want to make sure I'm not going to get shut down on the side of the road some time in the next week while I'm out of town starting tomorrow.

There are a couple options... You can have your bike tuned and reflashed with the new Maximus tuner... You can add a Power Commander auto tune, comes with new/better O2 sensors. But, those are just ideas to get rid of the O2s or upgrade them... I would find out what the root cause of the engine issue is. doing one of the above with that issue could fix it or amplify the problem.

I recall this issue on Facebook once.. the guy tightened his battery terminals, unplugged his O2 sensors, started the bike with them removed, turned it off and reinstalled the O2s and never had the issue again.

I have a 2017 Highball. Power Commander makes the O2 "optimizers". Simply unplug the O2 sensors and plug in the optimizers. Haven't had any issues since they were installed. (1k miles). You have to call Power Commander direct and the cost is around $40 for the pair. Dobeck also makes them for their Gen 3 fuel controller made for the 16 and 17 Vics. They didn't work on my bike, it still would throw the codes. The Dobeck is a single capacitor plugin and the Power Commander is a double capacitor plugin. $40 is a little pricey but they worked for me.
