Default 6.5 speakers

i got new to me kicker 6.5 speakers for my bike and was wondering if i needed any type of baffles like the stock speakers have. i currently have them zip tied in till i get the adapter rings.

Leesville Louisiana. 2012 cross country, speedo upgrade,forged engine guard,touring sheild, tri oval pipes, Lloyds gen 3 fuel controler, Lloyds highflow airfilter. Lloyds timeing wheel, msd coils,Lloyds 8.2 mm red wires,tank lift/spacers,tank wings,side cover scoops,audio input cord,drivers back rest, 2in pull back bars,polk 5.25 speakers,XC Mag baffles,rockford fosgate pbr400x4 amp,lower wind deflectors,sylvainia ZXE Gold h-11 headlights. rivco hiden hitch. IDMW,FYIYDLMOMB.

Not sure any baffles will fit the 6.5" speakers but I'm not an expert in sound for our bikes even though I long ago installed a Rockford Fosgate amp and 6.5" speakers.

You can try it without and you might like it just the way it is or you can use some kind of sound deadening foam sheeting with two sided tape to hold it to the inside of the front part of the fairing.

You're going to get lots of different input from diff ppl.
Most guys just bolt the 6.5's against the back side of the dash where the factory plastic boxes go by using offset adapter rings to adapt to the factory 5-1/4 holes and offset down&in to keep from hitting fairing.
For me, that sounded ok in garage, more bass breakup that. I wanted, but sounded ok.
If it was just a matter of sitting in a parking lot cranking it up, I'd have added bass blockers and left it, but going down the road, there was enough wind pressure coming in the front of the fairing around the headlight to distort like crazy over ~35mph.
The only time I wanted to really turn it up was out on the road, not sitting at a stop light.
Exactly the opposite of what I needed.

I spent 2 loooong days playing with configuration of speakers, boxes, baffles, soundmat, etc.
The shape of the factory baffle doesn't give you much flexibility (now HMD makes great speaker baffle plates to replace factory one!).
At the end of it, I stuffed the factory plastic speaker boxes and mounted them back in place.
Then I mounted the Alpine TypeS 6.5's from the front onto the factory speaker mount plate itself.
I had to do some trimming inside the outer dash and the speaker grille tabs so they wouldn't hit the speaker cone surround.

After all the screwing around, this config sounds excellent at any speed.
The boxes provide the correct support for the speaker & don't allow wind pressure to impact speaker cone movement.

I have lots of pics, but most of them are from setups that didn't work well.
This pic is a view of the 6.5 screwed to the front of the factory baffle, with the plastic box mounted in it's normal spot, with weatherstripping sandwiched in to seal it all up.
You can see that I had to shave down part of the upper speaker plastic frame so it wouldn't hit the fairing. This is unique to these plastic-framed speakers. The infinity 6.5's didn't have the bulky plastic frame & didn't touch, but I wanted to use same speakers as my bag lids and tour pack.

In the end, I got great sound, but I had to use the factory speakers grilles.
I have kuryakyn led grilles and performance machine bullet grilles but neither will clear the speaker in this config.

When people ask, I say that if you're as stubborn as me, you should get the HMD replacement speaker mount plate (mine will get that if I ever have to rip it apart again).
Realistically, the sound difference in midbass between the 5.25 & 6.5 is probably unnoticeable going down the road. A good set of 5.25's and amp sound excellent & is a lot less screwing around

so far i have the speakers zip tied to the back of stock bracket with the plastic cups removed. i might need to get the addapter rings since the outer speaker flex ring is against it.

i has been suggested i get design engineering 050330 boom mat speaker baffles. on amazon

i also looked at the rockford fosgate T400X2ad. it wasnt to bad

i recently found the boom mat baffles at an autozone and the sound dedning mat material. was hoping to find an amp that would work. i still need to get an adapter ring if i want to go the 6.5 speaker rout. it might be a lot easier to go with a good set of 5.25 speakers insted. just having to add a decent amp. would it be a real PIA to try to find a set of bag lids to go with the 6.5s.

I used the db 522? Something like that in front they sound fine for as small as they are. Bought the 6.5 adapters and speakers but have not tried them yet. It's late in the season so I'm not as motivated to fool with it.

I'm curious how well those baffles work for you. I have nothing because the stock plastic box things were stripped out worthless so my speakers are attached with nuts and bolts and nothing behind but as I said they sound fine for what they are. The 6x9 on my other bike sound amazing but larger speaker and amped.
