I found setting the gain was the trickiest part. I had it set too high and I think it may have blown a speaker. A high quality 6.5" speaker. I think I erred on the side of safety a little too much with the gain so the next time I have the fairing off I should adjust it up a notch. I can't tell you what to set it at though because I'm not sure what the happy spot is yet and mine may be different than yours although it's pretty much the same set up. I also don't have any baffles on the speakers right now.

When the bike is parked the sound is different than when it's moving at high speeds. I know that's obvious but it wasn't obvious to me at the time.

right now with the kicker upgrade 5.25 speakers it isnt to bad. as always we look for a lil better. so i got the 6.5s for a lil more umph and more and better sound at highway speeds. so you have the same amp as i ordered. what would be good setting to start with.

Might start with 3 or 4. You'll just have to play with it. It has been a long time since I installed the RF amp. I don't remember any particular problems. I did have trouble with the speaker adapters but those issues have all been worked out. The XC's were still fairly new to the market when I installed mine. Ironically I hardly listen to the stereo any more.

My Cross Country has a 300 watt Rockford Fosgate 2 channel amp and Hertz 5.25 speakers. It is ran by a Kenwood head unit that is all tied into the factory controls. I didn’t do the install. The previous owner installed before I bought it. The sound system really cranks! It’s very loud and very clear with no distortion. I don’t remember the frequency setting on the amp but the gain is set at 7. But, (there is always a but) those Hertz speakers are very high quality (IMO) and can handle the power. I would look at the RMS of your speakers then set your amp accordingly then error on the side of caution and back it off a little. When you are tinkering with it in the garage make sure you keep fine tuning between the frequency, gain, volume on the head unit, and volume of your phone if you are using Bluetooth. It all matters. You want it absolutely as loud as it can be yet retain the sound quality without your speakers “popping”. I say that because it it definitely changes when you get out on the road. I can run my head unit at max volume and it gets crazy loud while keeping great sound quality.

When you mount your amp I would put it with the adjustments facing down. Mine is not and I wish it was. I think you’d be able to make amp adjustments through the headlight opening without having to take apart the entire fairing.

Just my 2 cents.

How do your 6.5’s fit in the fairing? I absolutely love my hertz speakers (entire setup really) I would like some more bass and I think going up a size could do that.

Speaker adapters.
I might work on that since all we seem to be getting is rain here in Indiana now. I can't do rain when it's 50's.
