Default New XC owner questions

Hello again everyone. As you may have seen from my previous post, I recently acquired a 2013 Cross Country in antifreeze green with black flames. I've been dreaming of owning this bike since it came out and I was finally in a position to buy one when this beauty came along just at the right time. Anyway, it's getting cold here in Nebraska but I have been able to take the bike out a couple times and I have some question for you experts. First, the bike has Vance & Hines pipes which sound great. I don't think they are excessively loud but have a nice rumble when you get on it. It also has the taller tour windshield. I wear a full face helmet and when riding the bike at highway speed it seems so loud. I don't remember in previous test rides the cross country ever being as loud as this is. I'm wondering if the tall windshield might be contributing to the noise maybe letting the sound wrap around and back into me? Any thoughts? I do plan to get a shorter windshield at some point because I hate looking through this one but it probably won't be until Spring. I'm hoping that helps the noise.

Next is the wind. I know there are many posts out here about closeouts, lowers and other things to cut down on the wind. Warm weather riding would not be a problem for me with the wind coming from the highway bars. So I don't really want to go the route of closeouts. I've always liked the looks of the metal lower wind deflectors that Witch Doctor sells painted to match the bike. I'm wondering if anyone has these and if they cut down enough wind to get by when the temps are a little cool.

I'm sure I'll think of other things as I get more time on the bike but do far I've only been able to ride about 30 miles because of the cold and rain. Hoping for some nice days yet before the end of the year.

Any input is appreciated.

Scott

Does your V&H muffs have removable baffles? If so you can wrap them to mellow them out some.

I'm a big fan of the JTD hard lowers for my Forged Highway Bars. I don't know what you have so maybe they have some for yours too.

Thanks for your input. I believe I read somewhere that the V&H pipes do have removable baffles. I'll have to check that out.

I have seen several posts on the JTD closeouts. I have the forged bars as well. These do look really nice but just wondering if I can get by with something with the same result.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you thinking about some fork-mounted wind deflectors maybe?

Lots of folks run that style with good results.

I'm personally not a fan of the looks but things like that are so subjective. Your bike - your way.

Back when the X-bikes first came out and there were no options yet; we were all trying something different. The Universal Memphis Shades and Baker Air Wings were what was available so we made them work until something better came along.

I forget when the Tour model XCT came along. I think it was 2012 or 2013 with the factory lowers but they were made for the tube bars so not backwards compatible to the forged bars. Now lots of people want the forged bars for their uniqueness.
