Are you saying oil is coming through the Schrader valve?
When my shock failed I had oil on the outside of the shock itself. I think a seal failed on mine. Mine would hold air too.
If your shock is leaking oil, it is not repairable AFAIK.
How many miles?mine only had about 20,000 miles when it failed. It’s kind of a crap shoot. Some last a long long time. But there’s been quite a few failures.
When my shock went out it was like Tarzan's mentioned, oil was leaking on the outside of the shock. Mine went out with less than 1k miles on the bike but the replacement has been fine since. Mine would also hold air even though the hydrolic fluid had leaked out.
@v2blue took his shock apart and replaced the seals. He had to grind off the crimp nut at the bottom. Anyway, as I recall, after he reassembled his shock he added the oil through the air inlet. I don't think there is any separate chamber. Getting a little blow-back as you let air out during a pressure check should not be a problem.
