1. Stock - Too quiet but great low and mid engine torgue
2. D&D - Heavy and sound good but annoying freeway drone
3. Vance & Hines - Great look and overall best sound but too loud.
4. Victory Tri Ovals - Just right. Still has some mid range loss of torque compared to stock but will work with it. These are the keepers.
Found the Tri Ovals online for sale mistakenly marked as used stock pipes by a dealer. I knew better and snatched them up cheap including free shipping and I love the fit, finish and sound.
I may try wrapping the baffles a little (If I can easily remove them) to see if I regain a measure of mid range torque back while retaining most of the sound. When I tipped the pipes up I can see right through the baffles Y to the connection end of the pipes like many of the OPEN pipes I have already had.
I wrapped mine last year, I think it helped a bit with back-pressure(since I'm de--cated), more than that wrapping killed the droning I had. But it was an utter bitch to get my Tri-Ovals apart. Broggyr tried on his new set and one would absolutely not come apart.
Still happy with my WD "cherrybomb" mufflers. I would like to try the tri-ovals to see how they differ but haven't found any in chrome for a decent price.
Drew Miller (Miller Mufflers) is working on a baffle for the Tri Ovals. One that adds a bit to the sound but retains the excellent high, wide flat torque curve. He said he's in the dyno testing stage at this point. Personally, I love the Tri Ovals for their aesthetics and for having the highest/widest/flatest torque curve I've ever seen. Yes, other slip ons can have a higher spike somewhere along the rpm range. But even after all this time, I have yet to see a dyno run of equal modifications with a higher, wider or flatter torque curve.
I ran Tri Ovals for first 42K miles I put on my CCT. I sold them to a local CCT owner after I got a set of the Ragin Cajun Medium Low & Throaty mufflers. I bought a new all chrome set of Tri Ovals when Leaders was blowing them out for under $200. Mainly in anticipation of someone like Drew Miller coming up with an aftermarket insert for them. If/when he does, I'll certainly be anxious to give them a try.
If possible, keep us non facebook users updated on this, please. This has my interest.
