Default Engine sound on decel

Hey guys, wondering if anyone else has encountered this. It only seems to be happening at low RPM on a decal, but not full idle. I am getting a noise/knock that sounds like it is running out of gas, that I can feel in the rear brake pedal when it happens. Also had a moving/rolling engine cut out mid shift from 1-2 the other day, thankfully the clutch was pulled in, so I just restarted her and rolled on. Has been happening for about a week now. Any thoughts? I have checked the battery cables last night and they are all tight.

Might be the IAC (Intake Air Controller) kicking in. When I decel, i believe it's between 1500 and 1000 RPPM, the IAC opens and the engine feels like it's missing a beat. It's done it since new.

If your RPM is that low 1000 or 1500 rpm then you are lugging the engine,

At 2000 rpm put it in first or neutral

Try that first, these engines like it if you are at 3000 or up

EXACTLY!! It sounds like every car on tv/movies ever when it runs out of gas, the knock and hesitation. So I shouldn't be worried as I have 2 big rides coming up (PD13, and a Blue Line ride the day after)

I was referring to decelerating, such as slowing up for traffic or coming to a stop. I believe the OP was referring to decelerating as well.

1750 rpm under deceleration would be my guess... The bike is getting some miles on it and the driveline slack is showing more than it used to. This is exasperated by decelerating or running the engine at too low an rpm where it gets huck-a-buck on the transition between on and off the throttle.

On deceleration at zero throttle, the injectors shut off... they start to fire again at 1750 rpm in anticipation of needing to idle. If the TPS is a little off (maybe not really zero throttle to the ECU) or if the IAV system has a little air leak, makes the bike more huck-a-buck than usual and confuses the ECU.

First suggestion: Turn the key on, turn the kill switch to run and DON'T TOUCH THE THROTTLE... wait a solid 15 seconds... now start the bike. If that doesn't help do the TPS reset. If that doesn't help, check the IAV system for cracked hoses or loose connections.

I guess the biggest thing is not to decelerate through 1750...

I think a bigger question would be why does the bike have a full Barnett Scorpion clutch and no performance work listed?

@half_crazy I'll try the TPS reset and see. I got a few recommendations on the facebook group about throwing some seafoam in the tank, but I'm not a fan of that particular one.

As for the Scorpion, here is the Cole's/Cliff Notes version (depending on where you are from)

- Bike was purchased from a "dealership" that mostly specialized in sport bikes, they bought auction lots in the US of dealer demo bikes and brought them up here
- Bike was a dealer demo with ~2000 miles on it, from Hawaii
- Originally looked at it in 2014, but walked away
- Went back in 2016, still there, so I made an offer pointing out they hadn't sold it since I looked at in 2014, they didn't like it, walked away again, but they called me back half an hour later and accepted the offer
- they put the wrong oil in it, not knowing anything about the fun we vic owners have with oil. they also over adjusted the clutch cable so no free play
- The first ride, clutch slipped so bad I couldn't get it to shift up or down after the bike warmed up (10 minute ride).
- Limped it home in 1st doing 30 KM/h at around 4-5000 rpm. Clutch BURNT
- Dealership agreed to pay for a new clutch, and I need the bike for a wedding 2 weeks later, but the ACTUAL Vic dealership couldn't do it before then, so they paid for a Scorpion from WD, which was $300 cheaper than Ma' Vic
- Took me another 3 years to finally get the right combination of clutch springs/EZ-Pull/Clutch Levers to make the clutch manageable

And yes, that is the short story.
