Does anyone here use a riding app they really like to map their rides and also provides acceleration, lean angle, elevation, etc.?
I did a search in the forum and didn't see anything on this topic.
I recently downloaded the Yamaha My Ride app to my phone and so far it looks pretty good but I was wondering if anyone else has an app that they are really happy with?
I have the Victory Rides app. But I can say I have never used it. I have an old Garmin I can load GPX files into, and I use to have an easy to use program to build routes. But now TYRE want me to register some kind of account thru Google that get me an API or something. Well Google wants a credit card for a "no charge free" use account. Hmmmm
I have to agree I use the GPS to tell how lost I am but otherwise we just aim at a state and go. Aimed for Washington state and ended up in California that was fun. I would however like an app that one could design a route and have the gps direct you down that trail. Currently the only way to do it is gobs of waypoints and hours of tedious denial and error. I can program my quad copters to fly exact routes to inches even for areas 2000 miles away yet nothing seems available like this for road trips.
I have Rever for when i need to plan a ride. I'm not too concerned about tracking every ride myself- but Rever does track a lot of different data points. Various metrics relative to time, distance & speed (average, max) Altitude, to name a few.
The main idea is to plot out the desired route on a laptop, save it- and then bring it up on the mobile app. Can share as a Rever route for other members, or a regular gpx file- which any unit can read. I think you are able to plot a route on a mobile device, but this doesn't work too swift last I heard.
The free version has a lot of features. High limit on # of waypoints. It can be a straight up navigation app. The paid version adds a few more. A group tracker among the more notable toys. Meaning everyone in your group is plotted on the underlying map in real time. If your tailgunner fell behind/ had to stop with no chance to signal the group- you would all see that guy's dot falling back.
I have Rever but rarely used it till recently. Very nice how the desktop versionlets you pick a starting point and a destination, then add as many waypoints in between as you want. It'll pick an automated route between waypoints or let you select every street turn-by-turn, letting you get as exact as you want. Anything you save on the desktop is immediately available on the mobile app. I did not know about the group-tracking function on the paid version but that makes a ton of sense for group travel. I should use it more often.
I use: "Brain" and its utterly amazing how it works.. I went on a very cool ride that got stored in my memory. Then I transferred it to my buddies by a social media called: "Taking". But the best part is that the route is never erased and it can be live-streamed to to anyone via an extension called: "Follow Me".
Don't let me forget, "Brain" as has this totally killer feature, It can "sense" a route that was previously not saved that leads to exciting new riding. Happened to me just yesterday :laugh
I was just thinking to myself how my motorcycling life has been lacking one thing... a "riding app" for my phone.
Wanna see how I track lean angle?
But now that I can know what angle, in degrees, this was my life will be complete.
I was using Rever last month riding my Vulcan 2000, unfortunately a bus turned in front of me and we collided. The app shows me slowing and moving into the other lane. My insurance company plans on using the data obtained to subrogate against the owners of the bus. Luckily it wasn't my cross country but as of now the only thing I ride is a wheelchair or a scooter with 2 broken legs!
Wow, I didn't even think about it for that. I started using a dashcam a couple years ago after a minivan decided to cross double-double yellow lines right in front of me, to get into the car pool lane . I got lucky as my shoulder removed his drivers side mirror and boot and pants had a black scuff mark from his tire. Bought a dashcam that night and have been using one every since then. It might not save my life but it will show what happened and who caused what.
Get well and hope to see you on the road sometime.
There are lean angles and then there are LEAN ANGLES.
This was just one aspect of the MyRide App. but not the main reason. I like to have maps of my rides and I like to have info about rides from others in case I want to plan a similar route.
I realize this isn't for everyone but a few people use ride apps and I was wondering which ones were liked the most and why/
I use Calimoto. It tracks trip, altitude, lean angle, acceleration, speed, etc... It is great for planning a ride with multiple via points and road option (interstate, state rd, curvy, twisty) between each via point. destination or round trip. Also has a web base site. It was programmed by bikers. weekly, yearly subscriptions and lifetime premium. Android and iOS
Rever will get you to a pre-planned destination.Punch in start and finish and it creates a route. you other choices as well. You are going to be navigating with the smartphone instead of a GPS though.
