Default Rear Turn Signals

Okay....Kuryakyn makes a device for several brand of bikes, my old Vulcan 1600 included (but not Victory), called a Triple Whammy. It is a Run-Turn-Brake light kit. It is plug and play....you simply plug it into the bike's main circuit and it automatically turns your rear turn signal lights into running and brake lights as well. It comes with red replacement lenses for your OEM amber ones...and is great for adding some extra safety features in the form of extra lights to the bike. It runs just over $100.00 for a kit and takes longer to take out of the package than to install.

Does anyone make a similar product for the Vic bikes....and if not, why not? It is such a great addition and I would love to have that little extra lighting on the back of the bike. Those blinker lights are only used when they are actually blinking....such a waste when they could easily be functioning as running and brake lights as well. I have to admit...I have not totally researched it, just hoping someone may know of a similar product that does not require brain surgery to the rear lighting circuits. Thx.

Cheers....Kris O.

Since it first appeared, I have installed a Priority Lite unit on every bike. Not only for more attention grabbing, but providing drivers following me something to triangulate on for estimating my distance from them. Then I got my XR and that came to a halt. I could not find any product that would do that back in '10, so I added Hyper-Lites under the arms of the rear signals and got the same effect. They are highly visible from the rear, yet invisible when the bike is parked. There's even a convenient opening for wires to run through the arms and under the fender.

2010 Midnight Cherry XR. 7Jurock, Lloydz AF, ATS, AFR tuned VFCIII, IAV, and T-6 and locally repacked pipes = big smiles. SOLD to a dear friend, so it's still in the family."

They come with very tenacious double stick tape.
Have you gone to Paul Allen's Warbird museum at Payne Field. I just learned about it - some very rare planes there and they all are in flying condition.

Its funny....I live about 5 minutes from Paine Field....but have never taken the time to go over to his flying heritage museum. I have seen the planes flying though....he doesn't let them sit. I think every other Saturday they roll a couple different planes out of the hanger and fly them around a bit while a big crowd gathers to watch. Here is a link to place....

Thanks for that link - I had a good time perusing it. Gotta get up there to see that someday.

Possibly.

CustomLED -- which either works closely with or is an arm of Custom Dynamics (from which I've gotten a lot of stuff, over the years) -- makes something called the Triple Play. Here are the links:

http://www.customled.com/products/ru...brake_turn.htm
http://www.customdynamics.com/tailconversion_kit.htm

However...

Proceed at your own risk. On the Cross bikes, the ECM seems to be:

1) Completely in charge, and;
2) Does not like to be fooled.

I am currently, time permitting, in the midst of adding Rivco LED turn-signal (back) / running-light (front) mirrors to my XCT. I did a similar mod a decade ago to my Valkyrie, with Muth mirrors.

Anyway, back to the XCT, it turns out that this is a much more complicated project than I envisioned, because you can't just add stuff to existing circuits -- see ECM, above.

What I just got the other day is a trailer isolator, in order to make this all work, essentially without the ECM's knowing about.

I am in the midst of putting up a web page (something like 5,000 words, with pictures and explanations) discussing all of this. I should be done with both the hardware and paperwork within a week.

Bottom line: proceed at your own risk here, lots of luck, etc.

Cheers,

Bill P.

What I'm saying is that I'm not sure these kinds of devices will work on the Vic X bikes. If you wire them as directed, I don't think you'll hurt anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the functions don't work, or the flash rate is very fast, that sort of thing. You might be a guinea pig, is all.

That's the sort of thing I'm experiencing -- and attempting to overcome -- during my current mirror-adding project. (And even though I believe a couple of people have added those LED mirrors, one person I know who had them on bought the bike that way, and no longer has the bike. And maybe one or two others had dealers do this work.)

Take a look at this thread, for instance: https://www.victoryforums.com/showthread.php?t=9709 . Here, some people were messing with another CustomLED device, a brake-light strobe/flasher ( http://www.customled.com/products/br..._modulator.htm ). I don't have this, but you'll read that this required the addition of a CANbus load equalizer ( http://www.customled.com/products/lo...youtRegion9LYR ) in order to restore the cruise control function. Off hand, you wouldn't think flashing a brake light would mess with the cruise, would you? That's the sort of thing I'm talking about: the ECM being a busybody, monitoring things, not completely pleased with what it sees, and doing something you wouldn't expect.

BTW, I doubt you'll find anything that's "plug and play" for the Vic. To me, PnP means you unhook some harness plug -- or some bullet connectors -- and just plug the new device in-between. I think you'll find, instead, for the Vics that you need to get some device that's typically described as "universal"; what you'll need to do is manually splice and connect this bike wire to this device wire, that bike wire to that device wire, etc.

Also, in a brain cramp, I forgot to mention this less complex CustemLED device: Blinker Genie ( http://www.customled.com/products/ma...ic_blinker.htm ). This sounds like what you want, and is simpler and cheaper. In fact, I was thinking about these, before I bought the LED mirrors. Again, be prepared to possibly add a load equalizer or some other device, if the flash rate changes to something very fast, or maybe it doesn't work consistently, etc. That is, out of the box, on a Vic, it may not work as advertised.

Sorry to be so wordy. Does this help?

Cheers,

Bill P.
