Default Open house at MOMS yesterday

An email arrived a week or so ago saying that Arlen and Cory Ness will be at Moms open house along with the Fuel-it truck. I figured since I am unemployed why not take the ride (about 60 miles) on my 09 Hammer S, enjoy the free food, ride some bikes, shoot the sh1t and meet Arlen and Cory Ness.

I pulled into the dealer and their must have been 300+ bikes (not customers, the dealer bike they had for sale, siitting around the lot and under a tent) I would say maybe 20 or so customers/riders were their at 11am (early as the Ness's were not going to arrive until 2:00)

After removing my gear (it was chilly about 45 or so) the friendly staff offered coffee, donuts, muffins and wafting through the air was the amazing smell of real BBQ. Out back next to the fuel it bikes were 4 big smokers. The pit master offered some pulled pork, to this I could not refuse....By far some of the best BBQ I have ever tasted, and tasted again and again as I returned many times over the day.

I signed up for the demo rides and awaited for the group to return, when they did I hopped on a XC with tour pack. This was the second time I had ridden an XC, earlier in the week I attended another Fuel-it event and rode both XC versions.

The smile grew with every turn, I really enjoyed the way the XC fit me, handled..it was a very nice bike. The fact is while it isnt as eye catching as my 09 Hammer S, it is 100% more fun to ride and after all isnt that what a bike is all about?

When we returned a gentlemen who was on the ride came up to me and asked my opinion of the bike. I told him, "I love it and the fact is if I can get enough money for my 09 Hammer S, I would buy one today" The next thing I know he pulls out his cell phone and calls a sales person inside, "I have a guy, he is coming inside now and I am walking with him, he wants an XC and has a Hammer to trade"

The sales person was very low key and no pressure, he asked where my bike was, we walked to it. He did a quick walk around, the bike is mint, not a mark anyplace. Then he asks "what is your payoff", to which I responded, "nothing" and I whipped out from my pocket the title to the bike. Then "how much you looking to get", my answer "as much as possible"

With out getting into numbers I was offered $1500 more then what I paid for the bike!

I gave them my bike + 3k and walked away with a new XC with the follwing - heated seat, mid size wind visor, saddle bag chrome tie downs.

The ride home was great, dispite the fact that the temp was 52, and I was in bumper to bumper...it didnt matter..

Today I go shopping for chrome!

Oh, I almost forgot, Arlen and Cory Ness signed my bike

Just out of curiosity, what is it exactly that makes your new XC 100% more fun to ride than your Hammer? Didn't think you'd had the Hammer that long. Just tired of it already??

Sweet! Congratulations on your new scoot. Ride it safe, and post pics!

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

form over function is the best way to describe the hammer. beautiful yes, bad ass, yes but ride quality flat out stinks..and going down the highway 65-80, your holding on for dear life. yes one could add a wind shield, but that would take away from the bikes design. the foward controls at speed were terrible, you had to hook your heals over the pegs to keep your position while at high way speeds.

will i miss the bike, yes it is drop dead smokin hot, but aside from a bar hopper or red light hole shot bike...it aint a rider.

Good luck with the new bike, thats why I rarely very go to dealer open days unless I am looking for a deal, they always cost you money in the end
