Default Ride and grip weights

I rode up to Storm Lake, IA yesterday 396 miles round trip. Rode with 4 wings and my Victory. We eat at the Villager in Storm Lake good food and visited the Honda dealer there. We stopped at the Barn Door in Cerescol, NE for Lunch or supper on the way back.

I will be going to Spirit Lake in Aug. Now as to the oem grips on my Victory, I've read that the chrome ends or not weights but hollow plastic. How do I remove them without damaging my heated grips and put real weights on. I've searched this forum, youtube and the web can not find this info. It was hard enough just find that they were hollow. A real let down. How much more would it cost to put real weights on the end of the bars.

The XCT is a very good bike just need some refinement on the part of Victory to make it better. One would be a wide band O2 sensor. Less engine noise the clicking can be a little much. Makes it sound like there is something wrong with it.

We had a Dodge Magnum pass us at close to 100 mph. He came flying up on us and around and was still in the passing lane when he topped the hill. We were slowing down and moving to the left as I could see him hitting some one head on and his wreak taking out us. Than south of Sioux City on hyw 77 a yellow wing trike pulling a trailer passed two cars fist one there was a oncoming car and he had to get back in so close the car had to brake to keep from hitting trailer. But than he passed the second car and did the same thing without any on coming cars and than a motorhome witch had to brake as he was cutting in way to soon. It was like he was forgetting he had a trailer behind him. The motorhome had to brake very hard to miss his trailer. What are these people thinking? Oh there not!

Re the bar ends; Since you are in the Cross bike forum, can we assume you have one? A signature containing bike info will help you and others when making future queries. I have not heard of anyone even thinking Cross bikes need bar end weights. Since Vic promotes the bike's comfort, I'm certain bar end weights would be there, should they be required.
To remove the OEM ones, should you want to reuse them, wrap a heavy protective material around them, then twist and pull using a pliers. They are retained by means of barbs molded onto the plastic.
I installed Heat Demon internal grip heaters and could not reuse the OEM ends. I searched for the kind that has a rubber plug that expands as a screw in the end is tightened. Only Bike Master makes one for 1" bars and they are aluminum, no great amount of weight there.

He was lucky this time no one was coming, next time he may of used up all his luck.

Thanks I tried to pull them out was wonder about maybe using a cut off wheel. But will try as you said. I have not rode any bike that did not shack the grips. Even the wing does and has weights on the end of the bar. I seen some real nice looking ones for the Vic some were last week could not find them again. Will keep looking.

I asked a Vic dealer about putting thicker grips on and he said I would need to remove the heated grips to do that. Some one needs to make a thicker grip that screws on over the heated oem grips. Kuyakyn makes these for the wing heated grips and they work great.

The video or its description states that this is the same process for a bunch of Vic models, including the "XC and XR with stock grips or Heated Grips."

Grog, if it wasn't for the advent of the Vic Cross bikes, I would be hot on the trail of that new Moto Guzzi 1400 California, a very impressive ride. Good luck with your grip situation, I know there are many choices out there choice. Mine was to go with internal heaters so I could use any grip I please.

I removed my bar ends by twisting it back and forth. They are chrome coated plastic and not worth saving. I changed my grips to Avon so no bar ends. I did put weighted bar ends on a Harley Road Glide. Used some off of my Ducati. I had to improvise by using a rubber automotive expansion plug. It worked great and help quell the vibration.

I might consider one weight...at 75 the view out the left mirror is crystal clear, the right mirror pretty blurred.

Can you put the stock bar end back in after removal? What about filling the OEM bar end with lead pellets/pieces and filling with epoxy to seal them in there?

At various cruising speeds, one or the other of my stock mirrors vibrated slightly. (I recently replaced my stockers with Rivco LED mirrors -- see http://www.billanddot.com/adding-rivco-led-mirrors.html -- and I haven't noticed any vibration like that, but I haven't really been paying attention to it on the few rides I've been on since.)

On my now-sold Burgman 650, I replaced the stock end weights with some from Manic Salamander; see http://www.manicsalamander.com/produ...f-weights.aspx for the weights, and images 45 and 46 at my Burgman gallery, http://www.billanddot.com/burgman/ , for pics on that bike. At the time, those replacements were about $75, but they're much more now. I didn't really have a problem with handlebar vibration on the Big Burger, but the stock weights had a habit of near-falling-out, plus I wanted black ones.

On my XCT, I don't experience handlebar vibration when cruising, so I may never do this. If you're interested in reducing vibration, or if I ever do this, I'd give the Vibranators a try: http://www.vibranator.com/ . These are more sophisticated than the Manic Salamander ones, and are actually cheaper. They've gotten good reviews in some of the motorcycle magazines I get.

Look on ebay and you'll find bar ends that have a expandable bar ends but there have no weight to them
