Question Cross Country new purchase...Advice

Hi everyone.., new member here and could use some need advice... I'm sold on the 2011 'Country' and prepared to order. I'm not sure yet what extras to get. Pretty sure I'll get the flip windshield, lower wind deflectors, heel shifter, highway pegs, saddlebag liners and drivers backrest. I like the looks of front and rear chrome accents. The chrome saddlebag protectors with saddle bag lid rails for practical purposes. Still not sure which way to go with rear luggage and passenger backrest? Since I'm a 'newbie' to the the Victory World, should I order all from Victory or just get a starter and add the rest later? Yea, I know it's a personal preference and time will tell. However, since this is the new bike on the block; I want to be able to have more choices! If you can help from your personal experience with information or links, all advice is greatly appreciated.

I underlined and put in bold the things IMO you should get from Victory.

Everything else in red you can get for much less in the aftermarket.

Pretty much agree with Diamond except on the lower wind deflectors. You can go with the Memphis shades lowers for about $75 whereas Victory is currently charging $300.

The saddle bag rails do look good but they are kinda heavy and if not careful the extra weight of them will break the hinge on the saddlebags. If you are gentle with them it won't be an issue.

I would at least look at the Gustofuson (sp) windshields before making a final decision on the Victory flip shield. Just makes sense to see what the other make has and what their price is.

See if they will throw the trunk in with the deal. Some dealerships are doing this and I talked mine into it. I did have a little leverage on a stage 1 pipe I had installed on a Jackpot I was trading it. You really want the trunk for a few different reasons. Storage, of course, back rest, speakers, another power source in the trunk to recharge whatever. But mostly storage. On a daily basis I keep mine empty so it's less top heavy even though I'm use to it now..

On an HD the saddlebags are more effort to get into so the trunk gets used more. On a a hard bag XC/XR the saddlebags are effortless to get into; even from the other side of the bike so the trunk is actually more effort with its two latches. Not a biggie. Just something worth mentioning, eh.

There are some great vendors with some really quality parts for sale. Many times less than Victory's parts. Well...most times really.

Check out the links in Diamonds signature. I've bought parts from CycleOps and WitchDoctor. Both are excellent folks to work with and their prices are fair.

There's not much that's inexpensive but two things come to mind. The chrome cover through Victory for the rear brake master cylinder and the chrome cap for the rear brake reservoir is the same as the Honda VTX. I got 'em both for under $50. The master cylinder and reservoir are kind of an eye sore until these covers are installed in my humble opinion.

Edit: And don't be shy about asking for the forum discounts. Most vendors give 10% to forum members and they really like it when you post pictures of their products on your bike. Kinda gives them a reason to give us that discount, eh.

Personally speaking if your dealer will not give ya a deal on the accessories when you buy the bike I would take my time. I bought Victory's lower air deflectors and riders backrest when I bought my bike. Should have waited on the lower air deflectors. Found a deal on the passenger back rest later on and saved a bundle.
It is still winter and you will have a while to find or run across some deals.
Not sure of your height but I would consider making a deal with your dealer on installing the +2 bars when you buy it. My dealer gave me a 20% discount for 60 days. They also knocked off the FOB, tax, set up, and tags with $999 off the price.
A lot of dealers are offering the trunk at no charge

i second this for the shield....i have the 3+ flip and it is great...btw i am 5-11 and don't wear a lid and so don't care much about the buffet..

I added the CB, Ipod (must have), passenger backrest and luggage rack when new. Later I added bigger brake pedal ISO, +3 tinted Gustfason (sp) windsield, ISO grips, Vic Highway pegs and heel shifter.

The heel shifter sucks big time I have to raise my foot off of the boards to reach it, on my old Nomad all I had to do was slide my foot back and shift. I am really disapointed in the shifter it does not look to be adjustable for height.

Victory accesories are quite expensive (higher the Harley or BMW in my experience).

I got factory heated grips, which I love, although they are also available aftermarket for less.

Utopia makes a riders backrest which is more adjustable and less expensive. I have three Cee Bailey windshields of different sizes and like the quality and the price.

When I purchased my XC, after computing full retail (including delivery, sales tax, plates, etc, plus a couple extras) the dealer then took $3,000 off).

I found your opinion of the heel shifter interesting because I've been thinking of adding it. If it isn't' splined then the only way to adjust it is with the connecting rod. Of course if you lower the heel shifter arm; the toe shifter would go up. Maybe you can find a spot a little more user friendly.
