Default check engine light on my 11 xroads??

HI All: on the start of a ride today a red engine light comes on...what the H..

i stopped and checked the oil, all was ok. Then the red light went off but the "CK Engine" message (or something like that), came up on my digital readout on the speed ometer.

after about two hours of ridding the message went off.

any ideas of where i need to look for problems? or leave well enough alone.

The bike is basically stock only addition is the Big Honker pipes. i do have a hi perform airfilter. Thanx

Not sure about the XR, but on my XC, if you get the check engine light, you hit the button that shuffles through the trip computer displays like mpg, range, avg mph, etc and eventually the code related to the check engine light shows up. On the xc, you may only do this while the CE light is activated... So you wont be able to figure it out until it happens again...

I know this because i went through this with my 2012 xc when my voltage regulator (code 168) went out...

The service manual contains the codes. Make sure your battery cables are tight as loose ones seem to create a lot of issues on our bikes and i wouldn't worry about it unless it comes back.

Mine threw an engine code when I let the battery get too weak last winter and tried to start it while it was about 16 degrees outside.

I know that is exactly NOTHING like your situation lol...but just a little example of how sensitive the ECM seems to be. +1 on checking the battery terminals tho...that definitely seems to make trouble for these bikes if they're loose and voltage is weak or inconsistent.

You can call me Billy. Or Luci. But don't call me Shirley.

..you have a good point, the batter is about 2 years old and the terminals may be dirty. how long do you get out of a battery? Do you think u have to use a "Victory" battery to replace??

Thanks again

I don't think Victory makes a battery, just head down to your local autoparts store, walmart, batteriesplus, etc and just pick up a new one. I would hope the battery would last more than 2 years, had the original in my 06 Suzuki when I sold it back in the spring. Guess it all depends on how the battery has been stored when not in use.

Yuasa batteries are better from what I have seen working at a shop, worth the extra coin.
My hammer came with a wally world battery when I got it, the battery was less than a year old when it left me on the side of the road(internal connection broke) I didnt bother trying to get it warrentied, I just baught a good battery.
