Default Sturgis 2011

My wife and I are heading to Sturgis this year for the very first time. We were wondering if anyone else on here is going. If so maybe we can hook up somewhere along the way and ride together. We live in Indiana and will be leaving Saturday August 6th to head that way.

Also, of those of you that have gone to Sturgis are there any horror stories dealing with Victory bikes and Harley riders? I hear stories but never from anyone who has actually been so I really don't put alot of belief in them.

I took my vic last year and rode with my dad and step mom. Both have Street Glides. I had a great time. We stay in hill city in some cabins. Beautiful rides all over the place. I have been multiple times, and have not had/seen any problems between bike manufacturers. All flavors are there. Even the MCs behave themselves........most the time........

Fair warning! If you go you'll be back over and over

The people are great the country side is out of this world. There is so much to see and the bars are every wear along with a ton of T shirt vendors.
The days a warm and the night can be cold. Every kinda food you can think of and if you stay at one of the big camp site a lot of internment.
It will coast you a good hundred dollars a day with food drinks gas and what ever.
If you don't have a room better have a tent. Rooms are booked a year in advance but camping is all over the place. Camp grounds are great you get a bottle and walk from fire to fire and visit with people from all over the world. A few years back stayed next to some people from England and now were good pen palls. Been to Thailand with people I meet in sturgis.
I went to my first sturgis in 69 and have been back ever since and always find something new.
Bad things are it coast money to have fun and side walks are crowed a long with gas lines. Trick is fill the bike up before calling it a day cause in the morning every one is at the pumps.
DON"T sleep in get up and get going you can rest in the after noon.
If your staying at a motel ship them your clothes same for going home. Less to pack is better.
You Love it out there. I just read where a guy from Va. went last year and when he came back home moved his company out there he was so impressed with the people and the beauty of the country side.
If I could I would move there.
Harley riders are like you there out to have fun and enjoy the beauty of the black hills. Get a map of the black hills from where you stay and ride.
Sturgis

If you can't find a place to stay go on line and look up the collage in spearfish. Dorm rooms and a walk to the bathroom and shower but its clean and nice.

we went the last 3 years and plan on going this year. you'll have absolutley no problem with the riders of other brands, or should i say i never have and i've had my vic there the last 3 years. you might get some kidding but that goes both ways. my expierences have always been great. people go there to party and unwind, sure there are horror stories out there but how can you really prepare for that crap? find a good campground for what you want, hang at the poplular places and ride. due to my g/f having surgery we are gonna trailer it this year. i noticed you're from indiana, we're located in laporte if you're gonna ride and are near us we'd be happy to carry some of you belongs for ya.

if the house is a rockin', don't bother knockin'

Camera bring. One year I must taken 300 photos there is that much to shoot. The girls that are provocative and wear very little clothing gets the most photos. OK the buffalo's and donkeys get there share too.
They have laundry mats for the day it rains so you don't need your closet full of clothes.
There is enough vendors for any bike problems.
I have always heard the stories of this and that but have never seen any of it.
There is some good steak houses out there any groceries stores.
I wounder where you plan on staying????

Thanks for the advice guys. We are really looking forward to this trip.

Visionjohnny, you asked where we are staying. We rented a small cabin 5 miles from Sturgis for the week.

Bungln, we live about 30 minutes south of Indianapolis so you're probably 3 or 4 hours North of us. It would be great if we couldhook up once we're there.

Great send your clothes out there and take only what you need to get there. There are targets and walmarts so if you for got something not to wore.
Bring ear plugs for the trip out you'll be happy you have them.
I though it over and you might need 30 days on your vacation cause your going to have a great time.

I went last year for the first time and spent a week at the buffalo chip. I spent a lot of time in town and it seems most people are there just to have a good time. That doesn't mean there aren't people there that just want to start trouble. I just didn't see any and I went to some pretty crazy places (the dungeon). Law enforcement is out in full force so that helps. I rode my Yamaha star along with my buddies that were riding other Yamaha's and HDs. I'll be going back this year with my new XR. I guess you could say I'm hooked.

I'm at 75% that I will be going. I was going to ride my 14 up there but now that I have the Vic its even better. Waiting on confirmation from a few of my friends in Kansas before I can pull the trigger.
