Default Notches in levers...

On my 2011 XC both the brake and clutch levers have little notches in them. Anyone know what they are for?

Those are break off points in case of a go down where the lever hits the ground. You'll still have some lever left to operate the bike. Here's a helpful hint I learned a long time ago from a dirt rider. Never tighten the lever's bar clams so tight that they can not rotate if impacted with the ground. That way, the levers will never break.
