Default Smoking the Turn Signals/Brake Light

Hey guys...I just picked up my XC yesterday and love it already! I rode an '07 Jackpot before but needed something a little more comfy for the wifey for those longer rides!

Anyways...I had the dealer install the Stage 1 kit w/Big Mouth Tips and this weekend I am going to swap some of the multi-fit pieces I had on my Jackpot over to the new XC. I would like to smoke my turn signal lenses and am looking for a few opinions on the best way to do it! The only tinted lights I can find are from HMD and they are waaaay too dark for my liking! I was wondering if anyone knows of any vendors that offer a lighter smoked lense for the front and rear turn signals and brake light? If not, does anyone know of a vendor that offers clear lenses that I can then spray with VHT nightshades?

Thanks!

Thanks ED...But for the XC's right now..... HMD is the only place right now. If your looking for a light tint...VHT would be the way to go.

Yeah that's what I figured. I don't want a dark tint...just a smoked look. I figure that 2-3 coats of VHT Nightshades should do the trick. Has anyone out there used nightshades on their lights before? I'm just trying to figure out whether I should sand down the lenses with a fine grit paper before spraying in order to get better adhesion.

I'd be real interested on how this goes.
Are you smoking the original orange lenses?
Or, did you find some clear ones?

Yeah I'm real interested on how this is gonna go too lol! I can't see it causing too much of a headache...I know guys do it with their car's lights all the time. I know that some people that do their cars with nightshades sand down the housing first whereas others don't.

I'll be smoking the original orange lenses if I do it. Like NOEMTZ said, the only available lights of any sort available are the super dark tinted ones from HMD. I think smoking the orange signals will look pretty good though...I've seen a Vision with the front amber turn signals lightly smoked and it looked awesome.

I'll just have to build up some bravery before I go through with it because I can only imagine that OEM replacement lenses are probably stupid expensive!

Like most of the guys here you don't say where you live, Shame on you.
Here in Mn. the cops can stop you for smoked headlight tail light and License plate. Most of us don't do it cause we have a drink or two and don't need to meet any one with a shinny badge on there chest.
So check your laws before you get screwed.

I'm more interested in clear covers.
Then maybe slightly tinting them. But, anything to get all the orange signals and reflectors would really clean up the bike to me...

visionjohnny...sorry about that! I have my location listed now haha. I only signed up a couple days ago and didn't get around to it yet. I'm from Halifax, NS. Around here the cops don't seem to bug people with smoked lights as long as it's not really dark. I know a few guys with smoked headlights, taillights and signals on their cars and have never been hassled...tinting your windows on the other hand is another story...the law has no tolerance for tinted windows!

Henry...I'd say we'll have to wait a little longer for clear signals and brake lights as the crosses are still so new but you're right...anything to get rid of the bright orange! Go to the Arlen Ness website and you'll see the vision with the smoked amber signals...it looks pretty sharp! As for the reflectors...I'm just going to take them off the forks and saddle bags. I think theyre only held on by a glue kinda like badges on cars. A hair dryer, fishing line, and goo gone gets rid of them pretty easily! It really makes a huge difference in the look of the bike!

Now I need to find out, if it is legal in my state to remove the reflectors from the forks and saddlebags...
