Default Introduction

Greetings all! My first post. Have had my eye on Victory MCs for some time now and am thinking of moving to this mfr. I am 67 years old and have been riding for over 25 years. My current ride is an '02 Gold wing that I'm thinking of trading for a new Cross Country. Always liked V-twin. And am looking for something simpler in design than my Wing. My latest issue of Rider Magazine had an article comparing the CC to the Indian Chieftain and HD Street Glide Special; it got my juices going... Will be arranging a test ride some time this spring. Have visited the Victory web page to review specs and available accessories. Welcoming all comments and advice. Any downside to this model? Looks pretty easy to work on compared to my Wing (I like to do as much work as possible such as maintenance myself).

Welcome to the forum.

Things to keep an eye for during your test ride:
- Transmission shifts too loud for some, so make sure that's not a problem for you.
- Keep the revs up when you test ride - these bikes like to be in the 3,000 rpm range - downshift before you go below 2,500 rpm.
- If you like blipping the throttle, this is not a bike that's throttle blipping friendly (not around idle RPM at least).
- Stock configuration of the Cross Country (a.k.a. XC) might have buffetting around your head, depending on how tall you are. This is a fixable issue with aftermarket add-ons.
- Stock horn sucks, but if you're not a heavy horn user or willing to spend some $40-50 for an aftermarket horn, you'll be fine.

If these are not concerns to you, you will fall in love the minute you hop on.

Welcome Greyhound. I have a 2011 XC, love it. Bought it new. I came off a 04 Wing that I also bought new and I have never looked back. The Wing was a good bike, did a lot of things right, some not so. Once I rode the XC I was hooked. The wife had been riding Vics for several years, I would ride hers once in awhile.

The XC is going to handle a little different than the Wing at first, something with the frame geometry, but it only took a bit and I was used to it. Long trips, no problem. I tow the same two trailers with my XC that I did with the Honda, no problems. Fuel economy is better than Honda, but the Honda used 87.

After 90K+ on the wing it was time for a change. I've been riding 40 years, all sorts of bikes over the years, some good and some not so good. Been beat up and put away wet way to many times over the years. I have a aftermarket backrest and windshield on mine and my brides XC. Hers has anti lock, now standard. Very comfortable ride, not top heavy or any of that. Take it for a ride and see what you think.

Doing your own maint. is easy enough, gotta love the air filter change on the Honda!

Welcome Greyhound,
I came from a Kawasaki 1700 Voyager. I decided that I wanted to downsize a little and get my feet closer to the ground. I had my sights set on a Street Glide. Loved the clean looks and I never owned a HD before. Figured it was time. $21k

I have ridden Victory bikes in the past at events and always liked them especially the Vision. One day I visited our local Vic dealer and fell in love with a black 2011XC in the showroom. Last one as the 12's were in. The dealer said why don't you come back in 30 mins and I will have it prepped and you can take a test ride. I returned and when I asked how long I had he said we close at 5pm. Have fun. I came back at 4:30 from a spirited test ride with a smile on my face from ear to ear.

Having ridden 2 Street Glides in the past I can honestly say the Xc is a better engineered bike. More power, better handling, better comfort. To me the XC is also better looking. So you guessed it. I bought the last 11 in my area and at $16.5k too boot. No brainer right?

If you go this route you may find like many that not much is needed in the way of making your bike better. Although I added a performance package the power is more than enough. The seat is all day long comfortable and a change to a Klockworks windshield fixed most of the buffeting for me. There will be noises you have to get used to especially coming from a wing but the members on this forum will guide you thru any dilemma's you may face with your new Victory.

Love the Indian and I really like the new and improved Street Glide too but I wouldn't change my 11 XC for either.

Greyhound, I am 10 years your senior and have been riding over 62 years, the last 3 decades on first gen Yamaha Ventures. So I have touring bike creds. Age and cancer forced me into a lower seat height and while I was at it, I opted for more simplicity in the Cross Roads (XR).
You will enjoy the ease of maintenance - there ain't much - and the reliability is the stuff of legends. My advice; Pass on the extended warranty, chances are great that you aren't going to use it. Going on 4 years and no probs.
BTW, I never like anything about cruisers. Then, when I needed one, Victory came up with the Cross Bikes. The cruiser that cruiser haters can love.

Welcome to the forum. Late last summer I purchased a 2013 Cross Country and I love it. I transitioned from a Vstar 1100 and was looking for a bigger bike. My final decision came down to either the Stratoliner, Road King, or the Cross Country. I decided to go with the Vic and have not regretted my decision. I put a little over 2700 miles on it before I had to put it away for the winter.

Love the ride, the 6-speed transmission, and how well it handles. As others have stated the only downside for me was working on the wind management. At 6'2" the stock windshield was not getting it done and buffeting was a problem anytime I was going over 65 mph. I made some mods to take care of that problem.

If you decide to pull the trigger on the XC I don't think you will be disappointed. Again, welcome to the forum. When you get your new ride you will need to post pics.

You've made a wise choice in coming on the forum and asking before you purchase. I am not a "seasoned" rider by no means but I was looking hard at the XC but after the test ride nearly beat me to death with the buffeting I went for a much cheaper XR with little buffeting. Had I came to this site before I purchased I would have known how to fix the buffeting and would probably be on a XC right now.

Just my opinion only .. Only Regret I have with my XC is wish had gone for the Tour Model .. What extras come with it are far cheaper to have to begin with even if don't utilize them all .. Welcome to the Forum ..

Coming from a 05 Wing myself, what turned you to the Vic or twin crowd?

For me it was wind managment far superior to the Gold Wing. and slow speed handling i smuch much better.

Victory's suspension is great much better than the OEM Goldwing and doesn't have the cock a maimy anti dive system the GW has.


Some of the down side:
#1 Passenger comfort, after riding back seat on a wing she will notice this is a different animal.
#2 The wing has a very broad power band, 5th gear on my 05 was good from 35mph to readline two up and with the trailer. You will not find that so with the Victory stock. Rowing of the gear box is required.
#3 While your 02 had Catalytic converters Honda did a great job of keeping heat off the rider. Victory not so good. The right side Cat is under the passengers foot rest and the left one is right next to the oil filter. XCT in the stock configuration is hot in a warm day very hot, like wondering why the seat heat is on hi.
#4 Electrical power, the GW is an electrical power plant, where as the Victory is a house.

Over all, the GW has the technical advantage to the Vict, but with a few mods teh Vict will hold it's own.

How many miles do you ride a year?

If you ride a lot around the country for now Indian might not be smart. Not many dealers and parts will have to be shipped to dealer. Heck Vic's are the same dealers just don't stock basic parts.

Guys are ridding Cross bikes far and wide with the only real problem is tires don't last as much as we would like.

Changing oil is easy and you'll read most use a WIX filter from the auto store and as far as oil goes there a hundred of post on what ever one likes.

Vic has maintenance things like replacing belt change fork oil and other stuff way to early.
