Default General OEM Windshield Question

How many different STYLE and SIZE windshields does Victory make for their Cross Country TOURS!

I have researched this till I'm blue in the face and get conflicting or confusing information.

I have the Cross Country Tour TALL windshield (I think it is 18" from the bottom of the groove).

If someone knows definitively and can provide catalog numbers, I would be GREATLY appreciative.

Also...as to whether and what windshields need the extra bracket (3 holes each side) and which don't.

Wally

I believe that for the Tour, the only Vic windshield is that extra-tall one, the one with the brackets. And I believe the reverse is also true: the only Vic windshield that uses those brackets is that extra-tall Tour model.

If you go to http://www.purepolaris.com/en-us/Vic...Page=-1&sort=0 and then choose "Show All," you'll see one windshield listed as an accessory for the 2012 Tour, but it's listed as "BLADE WINDSCREEN (CROSS COUNTRY)" and it doesn't use the brackets. So, it's not really an XCT accessory they're listing, but rather an XC one.

When I ordered my 2012 Tour, I also ordered the KlockWerks Flare windshield. The bikes -- at least in 2012, and at least for the Tour (although I have no reason to believe that this has changed) -- are shipped from the factory without any windshield in place. The dealer agreed to put the Flare on for me without a labor charge, because he had to put some windshield on anyway. When I picked up my bike to ride it home, I received a box with the never-used extra-tall windshield, those special Tour brackets, and a bunch of nuts and bolts... because those brackets are only for that tall windshield, and are not used for anything else.

Thus, if you take the brackets off (or, in the case of my dealer, never put them on), you can buy any old XC windshield, instead of that XCT windshield/bracket combo; the dash will then be identical to the XC dash. My KW Flare was just an XC Flare; I've since sold that, and also sold the original extra-tall XCT windshield and its brackets. And I've since put on the Madstad XC windshield/brackets combo.

Summary: in terms of windshields, the only thing that makes an XCT an XCT are those brackets and that tall windshield. If you remove that windshield and its special-purpose brackets, you have an XC (in terms of windshield choices).

If you have any info that contradicts what I just wrote, I'd be interested to learn what it is. And I'd be surprised.

Cheers,

Bill P.

Bill...as has happened many times...I found my answer right after I posted this. I spent multiple times and multiple days searching for the answer ( I mean at different times, not all at the same time)... and could not find a good answer.

Yes, you are correct Bill.

I am just not happy with my MadStad (I don't think)...so I have now ordered the Cee Bailey's OEM at 15" instead of the stock size of 18". I hope this is my last windshield to buy...otherwise my "inventory" of windshields will be more than what Victory keeps in stock.

I'll know for sure in 2 weeks, if the Cee Bailey's works well, then I'll sell my MadStad brackets, 11" shield and the 13" shield.

Glad we agree on this.

Hey, these windshields just circulate among and around the Vic community -- we buy them, sell them, maybe they get sold again. Just think of it as a routine maintenance item / cost of owning a bike: oil, filter, tires, windshield.

BTW, near the very bottom of the webBikeWorld XCT review ( http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...y-tour-review/ ) there are links to five aftermarket windshield companies that have XC models. I think that at least some of them will let you try out different heights within their own lines, if you leave the plastic wrap on them.

Cheers,

Bill P.

Arkie, have you checked out the 7Jurock shields for the CCT? I couldn't be happier with my 14.5" "flip" version. I am 6'8" tall and look over the shield, with absolutely no buffeting issues. Price was excellent, and quality is as well. I went the madstad route before, but I just couldn't live with the looks of that set up. Another option for you to check out anyways!

How many millions of dollars for the 11" shield & brackets you don't like?

rewindguy...I'm not making any decision on anything until I mount the new windshield from Cee Baileys (and they say there is a 10 turn around time)...at that point, IF the CB shield looks good and works well, ONLY THEN will I go ahead and sell the MadStad system and the 2 windshields I have. The 11" was on the bike for less than 5 MILES and the 13" probably has about 12 miles on it.

I kept the original boxes and wrapping...so these are LIKE NEW shields...but yes, I will sell at a pretty decent discount, IF and WHEN I sell them.

One thing you guys with the XC Tours got going for you is the hard lowers. That in itself conquers alot of the turbulence that those of us with non tour models still have to contend with. If you find the right shield for your height, that's most of the battle! I considered the JTD lowers, but just can't seem to pull the trigger on a set.
