Default New XR owner here

Just traded up my fury chopper for a cross roads. Loving the bike! Now I just need to get some sound outta these pipes. Does drilling out the stock pipes work? Really clueless about this. Don't really want to deal with a fuel control unit right now. BTW...are stage1 pipes any good?

Victoryace,
Welcome to the clan. I sent a 1-1/8" hole saw up the mufflers and drilled out the baffles that are about 20" from the end, so you'll need to fabricate an extension. The baffles are very thin, so its not difficult to do. Make sure everything is secured well so you don't leave the saw in the muffler. The sound is nice, I think, and elevates with the angle of the throttle. I can leave without the neighbors knowing and make her bark as I'm entering a freeway. I also removed the O2 sensors - you can simply disconnect the leads. I thought removing them would clean things up in the engine compartment. Plugs to fill the holes are available free at muffler shops. I just did a 1200 miler, same as I did this time last year. Last year, the bike was stock and got 50 mpg. This year, after those mods, it got 46-47 mpg cuz it runs richer, which is a good thing. I hope this helps. There are other threads about this, do a search under "cheap mods."
