Default Stereo amp install issues (Resolved)

Installing a Biketronics amp on the XC. Wiring is all done and connected according to the directions. One slight issue, no sound. I've never been the best with wiring stuff so I'm hoping one of you smart chaps can help me. I know Kevinx installed one on his XC, so apparently he's smarter then me when it comes to wiring.

Took a couple photos on the phone and uploaded them to Picasa, clicky link below to see the connections along with captions for everything. If I need to do some specific shots just let me know. Album should work, if it doesn't I'll try to upload them to the forum directly.

First thing to do would be to re-read the instructions slowly while double/triple checking all of your connections. Not just the wire routing but the crimp connections as well. Jiggle and pull the wire to make sure it is properly connected. (I loathe crimp-ons!) Next thing to do would be to get a Volt meter and check for power at all connections. If you don't have a volt meter, get a cheap one at Vato Zone. Other than that I can't be of much more help.

Did you get the 10x1 transformer for the RCA jacks; that it says you need in the instructions???

They are very nice if you call the number listed on the biktronics sight. Transformer is about $14, but if you are like me the $60 overnight shipping hurts*LOL*.....I thought I was the only one that didn't read instuctions.

BTW they are Pacific time, and you can call from Fl untill 8PM

OKL looked at pix, and all looks good. You do have the transformer in place. You need to check for power at the power outlet. The fuse for that is seperate from the main box under the right cover. Look for a 2 wire plug going into a closed receptacal on the bottom of the covered area[does that make sense?]

Checked that fuse and its good too. Since I don't have a voltage meter I guess that's my next stop. Since I'm east coast time I should be able to get that and if there's any more issues call the Biketronics people.

Only connection I'm kinda iffy on is the Amp Enable line. The directions say for it to connect to the "hot" on the 12v plug in, which on everything else the + line is the small white connector. For the Amp Enable connection though it won't fit on that one, only fits on the black connector. Suppose the voltage meter will tell me.

Further looking, and I see a problem based on your last comment. The enable wire is hooked to a black ground wire, and not the grey/red power wire for the aux power outlet

Did you splice the wire or trim the dog leg connection at the end of the blue wire so it will fit into the connection for the grey/red power? Right now I can't get the thing to fit in there.

EDIT: I yanked the white connector housing back and pried open the metal connection bit enough to shove in the blue wire for the Amp Enable. It definitely won't come loose. Still no sound though.

Gonna run into town and pickup a voltage meter, see where that gets me.

I spliced into the middle of the wire with a three way conector

Figured it out with the volt meter. The place where I was trying to ground it at was no good. Found a place that worked and it worked like a charm.


For those on the fence about upgrading the amp and speakers, the Kicker's and the Biketronics amp together do very well for clarity and volume. I had just the Kicker's for awhile but they got drowned out at highway speeds. Not anymore! Though now it means I have to upgrade the trunk speakers, those poor stock speakers can't handle near the volume the Kickers can.
