Default Goofy Fuel Totalizer

I'm curious as to whether the fuel totalizer on all Victorys is goofy or just mine. I've got the stage one on my 2013 Cross Country and it seems as though the range, average mileage and fuel gauge are pretty much just decorations. The fuel gauge will pretty much do as it wishes once it gets to about a quarter. The range mileage doesn't even come close to reality and my actual fuel mileage is usually 8-10 mpg lower than the computer says.

The per delivery inspection was a joke with low tires, flat suspension and a crooked rear wheel so I'm wondering if they didn't remap the bike after they installed the stage one and tri ovals.

Any thoughts?

Mileage computers are never accurate, in my experience, and one should do the simple math at fill up.
My thought is; you need to go to a different dealer, or do the work yourself. Vics are so easy to work on and I don't trust others with tools and my stuff, so I go it alone.

These bikes are notorious for fuel calcs being high. Most people on here report anywhere from 3-8 MPG difference, and the fuel range will change as you ride, may go up, may go lower fast, very undependable, and the WORST part, when you really need to know how much fuel you may possibly have left, it just reads "Low Fuel", Hell, I know that, can I make it too the next station like I'm running or should I slow down and try to conserve.Best to create a database either in your head or on paper as to about how far you can go on a tank, and keep that in mind. I know at 200 miles I need to start looking for gas, if I'm out in open range, say maybe heading across South Dakota, I'm looking for gas at the half tank area, if I'm in populated area, 1/4 tank and I start looking. Thats just me, but you are right, the calculations on our bikes are terrible.

Oh yeah, unless you live near the Lloyds, Rylans or other reputable shops you see talked about on here, do like RICZ says, do it yourself, it's not hard, if you can change oil in a car, you can do almost all wrenching on these bikes, unless you go internal to motor and trans. If your unsure, search youtube or ask here, you will get answers.

I am not all that experienced as a motorcycle wrench, but I am good with tools and had a machine repair biz for over 40 years. If its held together with screws and bolts, it can come apart and be put back together. I have yet to come across a fastener that was difficult to get to. These bikes are actually fun to work on. Download the manual for yours, courtesy of Bbob and have at it. If this cancerous 77 year old can change out a rear wheel, certainly you can align your belt, etc..

I agree the fuel gauge is basically decoration. Wasn't very accurate on either Kawasaki I owned, either tho. Mine runs to E and the fuel light comes on when I still have 2 gallons in the tank.

I discovered this as my first tank got low. Range info said I had 80 miles left until empty, 2 miles later said low fuel and my fuel gauge was on the E line.

The best fuel gauge is a reset trip odometer at the time of fill up.

I agree 100%. That's the way I've always approached fueling requirements on my bikes.

I fully agree with you guys, the trip meter is the fuel gauge and has been on every bike I've ever owned. But you'd think that for the price of the bike and the fact that it's using modern technology that these items would work better. My wife drives an '06 Hyundai and the fuel totalizer on that thing will basically tell her exactly when she's about to have to walk.

As far as working on it myself, I've been tuning motorcycle engines (as least I did back when you could) and making them go fast for many years. Everything from Yamaha RD's to Harleys and yes I'm very impressed with the engineering on Victory when it comes to working on it. I will mention one little thing though that I discovered. I ordered a set of passenger bolt on floor boards for my wife. When I went to uninstall the factory footpegs I got a surprise regarding how they secured the pins that hold the pegs on. Fortunately Witch Doctors had a video up on how to get the little buggers off of there.

All in all I'm impressed by the Victory all most levels. I'm especially surprised with how long its legs are in 6th gear.
