I was thinking of getting a klock werks shield for my xct. Is cracking a common problem with them. Besides the cracking how do ya'll like them, and do you look through them or over.
In the earyly going -- maybe two years ago -- there were a lot of problems with cracking. Since then, some changes were made, and this has not been an issue... at least not as much. I believe the early corrective changes involved more washers and something along the lines of a better specification from Victory, regarding exactly where the holes were to be drilled.
If you're talking about the KlockWerks Flare, you definitely want to look over
it. The top inch or two of the Flare is curved upward, to deflect air; this means that that portion of it is not for looking through, not optically correct, etc.
I had one for the first year of my XCT and liked it a lot. It wasn't suffocating, but did a good job of keeping buffeting at bay. And I had no issues with cracking for that 1+ years.
, I'm 5'9", 30" inseam. If you're much taller, you will most likely get buffeting -- my taller riding buddy did, when we'd swap bikes. If you're much shorter, you'll be looking through or close to that curvy top portion. So, IMHO, it's a nice looking and effective shield, but you have to be the correct height for it. (I sold that, the buyer likes it, and I got an 11" Madstad shield and brackets, just to try something else. I like the Madstad, too, but that wasn't your question.)
