Unhappy snap crackle POP....2013 xc

Had a nascar 6 muffler, lloydz air filter/ timing wheel [email protected])/ IAV / PCV and a kmc tune on 3/8 during bike week--getting popping(loud snap) on up shifting(2-5 gears around 3-3.5 rpm) and some start up???? looked at the exhaust mounted to the cylinder heads all good there. injectors or maybe the muffler has leaks?? appreciate all ideas on getting it right. thanks

If there still there go back to KMC and talk to them. You could get a hold of Kevinx at Polaris of Gainesville hes a great tuner.
Check your exhaust flang bolts if there loose go for ride check when you get back.

Did Kyle do all this work at one time? Did you bring it to him stock? Did it start right after you rode off or days later? Finally did you call him? He is great at figuring this stuff out.

Call Kyle after you check the muffler for leaks. I still have some pop on upshifts but its minor and usually due to my lazy riding habits. Try not closing the throttle all the way when shifting and as Vindex stated he found an adjustment to his PCV that helped him. These bikes like to be ridden more aggressively than not. Anything under 2200 rpm and I'm downshifting. 2500 to 2800 is the sweet spot on these motors.

i use 93 non ethanol gas and i had the nascar 6 exhaust put on a week before the 8th and kyle did everything else on the 8th at one time. he got 93hp and 113t. As i left it popped hard starting it then continued to pop on the upshift and i know whacking the throttle and closing it fast can cause it on decel ,but im upshifting and being careful and it will still do it. Sooo i brought it back, kyle checked the exhaust flange said fine and put it back on the dyno for me.changed some settings he said and off i went--slightly better only. now starting is sluggish when it sits over night???? could it be a leaky injector or maybe the nascar 6 muffler? kinda spoiled here cause doc's here in florida when i had my harleys would tune and spend couple hours getting it spot on.thanks for all help just want it right.

maybe there is a bad connection on the PCV or a poor ground

I'm not finding any difference in popping with or without ethanol, but installing Lloydz exhaust gaskets did help a lot. Vic's gaskets are hard and one was leaking. Now with Lloydz softer gaskets, things are quieter at the engine and at the muffler ends.
A gentle and smoother wrist action when shifting helps. If your being dramatic with the throttle, you're gonna get popping. Easy does it.

The only time i had popping on decel or shifting was when i run rich, like when i had my O2s disconnected when it was stock.

I read this on Power Commanders web site and after making adjustments to the PCV, my popping was virtually eliminated. Hope this helps....

Q: I am happy with the way my bike runs, but it “pops” during decel. Is there an adjustment I can make that might help with this?
A: Some decel popping is unavoidable with certain exhausts, but there are things you can do to reduce or even eliminate it in most cases. The first thing we strongly recommend is replacing the exhaust gaskets. Most people tell us “mine are fine, I don’t feel a leak”, but after changing them they find that the popping is reduced. Also, check all exhaust joints for leaks. Tighten all clamps and replace any gaskets that can be replaced.
Once the above is done and you still have popping we can move on to the fuel map. Open the map you are currently using. In the 0% TP column from 2,000 RPM and higher enter a value of 20. Click upload and ride the bike. Often this is the only change that is required. You can also add a value of 10-15 in the 2% column from 3,000 RPM and higher (in addition to the 0% adjustment).

I bet I heard it a bazillion times, here on this forum, standing on the street corner and from bike hounds all over hells half acre. "I changed my pipes and all kinds of stuff and now I get popping. I don't get it."

Just the act of removing a muffler from a header pipe is plenty. Fella drops that weight off a pipe that has most often seen repeated heating and cooling cycles with that weight in place and then steps up to report that he did nothing to affect his exhaust system and invite air leaks. The weird thing isn't that it sometimes happens that work on the ass end affects sealing at the head end. The weird thing is that it doesn't happen more than it does.

If the popping is a bother there's better header gaskets, revisit clamped connections (there's goo for that too) then start tweaking for the popping if it ain't cured. It's amazing how much fire you can put out by just starving it for air that it didn't need to be breathing to begin with.
