Default test rode a 2010 Cross Country. Questions now

The local Honda shop just added the Victory line to their sales. I scheduled and took a test ride today. I wanted to ride the 2012 XCT
but they didn't have one set up yet to ride so I rode the 2010 model they had in the back. I'm short...5'6" short. I thought the short windshield would be about right for me but to my surprise it was way short for me. I sat on the 2012 and I would definately have to look through it. I know others are changing their windhields as others are available. the big question I have though is about the bars. I have to lean slightly forward and I know from experience
(2002 VTX1800 104,000 miles by the way) the ride position is not comfortable after a short while. I put 6 inch 1 1/2 pull back risers on the Honda and it fixed the problem. Not only did the Victory bars seem far away they seemed low and it really felt ackward. I looked under the fairing at the triple trees and there doesn't seem to be much adjustment up wards. I think the bars could be replaced with something a couple inches longer as they appear to be ape ahngers tilted way back but is their a cure for the low feel? Looks to be maybe 1/4 to maybe 1/2 inch before the bars hit the fairing. Also will the stock cables fit on taller bars if available? I'm looking for a bagger. I really love the XCT...it is not cookie cutter like every other Harley but I have riden a couple ultra classics and the bars seem just right. anyone have solutions? thanks in advance

Those bars have a lot of up and down adjustment BUT they don't adjust back (closer) to you. When I first rode my XC I thought it would be uncomfortable also but I took a 1400 mile New England tour and was comfortable. I am 5'7" with short arms and legs.

Go back to the dealer and tell him you want the bike but the bars are not right.
Ask him he can adjust the bars for you. Like take the outer faring off and move them.

You don't have to remove the fairing to adjust the bars. 6mm allen bolts can be reached from the underside of the bars. Then rotate the bars up or down. There is no other adjustment on the XC bars.

I suppose I could get used to it. I really like the ride and the sales dude says the 2012 is smoother tranmission wise but I really didn't notice the tranny cluncking. guess its about like the Honda in that aspect. He is keeping in touch with me via e-mail and is supposed to let me know when the 2012 has been preped for demo rides so I will convey what yu folks have said. Perhaps a little raise in the bars is all taht is needed. Thanks guys for the input.

Default hopeful helpful answer

A vic driver backrest will help too. it scoots you a little forward in the saddle and makes the reach seem less. It will also give you excellent back support!

You can get 2" pullback bars now from Victory. Mine are on order. Like yourself, I have 6.5" of pullback on my Vstar between the risers & handlebars. I'm not sure the 2" will be enough but it's a start.

You can also get pull-back handlebars by PMRT and they are a lot cheaper than Victory's. I am 5' 6" also and I've had my XC for over a year. It's still stock in the handlebar set-up and like was mentioned, you do get used to it and it's fairly comfortable. I would like to make it a little better but like sgtfixit says, I want to try a drivers backrest before getting longer bars. I prefer buckhorn style bars anyway as I never really did like the flat hand position these bars give but there's not a lot of option for these bikes there short of trying to modify my stockers. And a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch adjustement way down at the pivot point where these bars adjust can easiely translate into 2 to 3 inches out at the grips. Geometry at work there.

They make 2" pull back bars for the XC. I have them on mine they work great and you don't have to buy longer cables.

Several aftermarket windshields available in all shapes, sizes, etc.. SRVT makes 2" and 4" pullbacks as well as mini apes, Vic makes 2" pullbacks.
