Default victory stock paint job

. I am not impressed at all with this paint. I used a microfiber towel and some Mcguires final inspection spray and Cleaned the Bike.
I Now have some swirl patterns in my tank.
I have never had this with any of the bikes I have owned in the past. So what do I do now ? Is it something that will buff out ?

I guess that custom paint job I want might come sooner than later.

minor swirls and scuffs can be polished out using either a polishing compound or a scratch and swirl remover. Meguire's makes both.

Once you get that done, do a wax job on it.

NO the paint is crap. Way too thin on the clear coat. I have a black bike and it is horribly scratched all over. I tried the black wax and it did not help. I have some high end glaze and it barely helped. I will repaint the bike eventually with a generous coat of clear.

The thickness of the clear is not the issue, it's the quality of it.

I used to own a black Yamaha Royal Star Venture and swore I would never own a black bike again. I was constantly polishing out scuff marks on that thing. Black will show everything much more so than any other color. I do agree though that the quality of the clear coat on these Vics is not good. That said, a really good polishing and wax job does help...(some). I can say that because when my bike was new I found it very easy to get little scuffs and marrs on the paint. I've polished those out more than once but since I did a really good wax job, they don't seem to happen so much.

Now if only I can get the "passenger" to stop scuffing those side covers with the heel of her boot LOL

I actually think it takes a long time for that paint to cure all the way. Like, months perhaps. the resilience of mine seems to have improved considerably. Altho, the color has changed slightly...the clear seems to have yellowed a bit, make my Crimons Red look just a little coppery. Not bad, but definitely different.

I have got scratches and swirls all over my bike but they are really hard to see in the sunset red because of all the metal flake. Black bikes, cars, boats, etc are beautiful when cleaned and waxed but don't take much for scratches to show.

Zymol makes a product called HD cleanse. Small white bottle and the cleaner is chocolate in color. This will remove old wax build up and swirl marks. Scratches are scratches. Only wet sanding could remove the minor ones but I wouldn't recommend it with this factory shit paint. When applying your cleaner/polish use only a NEW foam applicator. When removing use a folded(many times into a square) white T shirt creating a pad. Do not apply and remove any product in a circular fashion thus creating the swirl marks. Turn the white cotton t shirt pad that you made often un folding and refolding to get a new clean surface for wax/polish removal.

This info came from my neighbor who owns a high end auto body shop specializing in old classics. He prefers a high end glaze such as 3M as Carnuba waxes are seldom applied and buffed correctly. If you have layers of polish and wax on the bike than you need to remove it and get down to the bare clear coat. Use Dawn dish detergent as your soap to wash the bike first. Then the cleaner wax ZYMOL or a cleaner wax system like the ones from Meguiars and Mothers then your final coat. Spray polishes for on the road are ok while on the road for a quick clean up but tend to create a yellowing build up that I noticed on my black finish. The Dawn dish soap will remove all wax.

This is what I suspect is up with my paint. I'll give a proper wash with some Dawn and see what I get. Maybe try a cleaner wax too.

Truth be told, I'm more than a little cavalier about detailing. Just laziness, really. I could never own a show quality bike or car. It's also why don't own any guns that are autoloaders don't trust myself to keep up on the maintenance.

I am guilty too. I have done this cleaning process twice in the 3 years of owning this bike and the last one was a few weeks ago. It looks nice now but the spray polish and on the road cleaning with the wrong cloths are mostly to blame. Especially when the bike is dirty an you apply the spray stuff on it without washing it 1st. Instant scratches and swirls!
