1st test, New Cee Baileys Cee Silencer shield

So, Joe from Cee Baileys returned my 2011 XC yesterday with a new shield…the Cee Silencer. I saw it when I got home from Florida late last night. First impression…Boy it is huge!. But, typical CB quality, no distortion, etc, PLUS, the Gold Wing vent. I have a GW and also had this vent on my last Road Glide and love it.

This morning I tested it in three configurations, 1) with the CB hard lowers, the summer “Flectors”, 2) without the Flectors, and 3) with the 2012 Victory hard lowers (shown in the pics).

This thing rocks! With the CB lowers it was very very nice, I initially gave it a 10. It was a cool 65 degrees, but with the vent open I could clearly feel the air. Would be great on a warm day. I rode with a ¾ helmet with the face shield up. I had the XM on, at volume 10 (out of 26) at 80 mph.

With the Flectors off, there was a lot of air, it has been quite a while since I have ridden the XC without them and I guess I forgot how much air comes up from under the fairing. However, I didn’t really seem to get any buffeting. Mark is going to test this shield later this week, and I will be curious what he notices if he tests w/o the Flectors.

Last, but not least, I bolted on my new factory hard lowers. This changed the rating system. I would have put them at a 12 (scale of 10). I also rode my buddy’s Vision, which have excellent wind management, and, to me, the XC was better!

For me, this shield will be perfect in cold weather or on longer trips, thank goodness the XC shield is so easy to change out.

Wow! That baby pushes some wind! Definitely for touring. Like you said; it's a great thing the shields are so easy to change out. Did you have opportunity to try one of the new Klockwerks shields sold by Victory?

I've been doing some studying on changing the cams and I might give it a go on my own but maybe call Marc or someone for help if I need it. I figure it would probably take me a full day or more to do it but I have all the tools, lift's, etc. that I'd need.

The PCV w/AT is in and made a distinct difference with just the Map Fuelmoto installed. Idles smoother and winds up quicker. I'll be messing with the tune this week to become more acquainted with the software.

Bob, if you have a lift, Marc (and I) might ride over to Havasu, Marc's biggest issue with doing cams somewhere else is not having a lift (back won't take bending over). I only have a couple weekends available the rest of the year, but I only "supervise" anyway.:D

Do you have a day job or retired?

I spoke with Marc and he sent me to a Vision site where it shows some info on how to do it. Probably can't link to it from here.

I'm a medically retarded, er, retired computer tech, heavy equipment operator/mechanic, and orthopedic tech. Unfortunately the heavy work took its toll. Probably need another back surgery before too long. That's another reason I want to get everything done 'cause I may not be able to later.

After putting the saddlebag bars on I felt confident enough in them to pull the forged bars off and put the fairing winglets on and left the fork lowers on after adjusting them a bit to get maximum effect from them.

I was pleasantly surprise when I got it up to 80 mph and my ball cap I had on backwards didn't fly off or even feel like it wanted to. There was plenty of wind but no buffeting. It would be a good way to roll in the Summer heat with a mesh jacket and evap cooling vest underneath because of the good flow of air. Blew my shirt around but not up. I'll keep it like this until I do the cams and then I'll try the factory lowers.

I definitely need to give the PCV w/AT some attention though. Runs ok but not great like it should. For the moment; it ran better under load with the O2 sensors unplugged and the stock Map. Idles better and has better throttle response now though. The Nascar6 mufflers sound fantastic. Very pleased with their performance and sound with a low throaty rumble that's not too loud but will bark if I want them too.

Baby steps I guess. :D

Should be getting a passenger backrest and the Klockwerks shield sold by Vic early this week. I'm hoping for some good results on the shield from other early reports.

Put 2-300 miles ridin' today and as the temps cool off to a chilly 95 degrees; I got to thinking about this shield because I could feel the cooler air over my arms as I was ridin' down the super slab.

A cut down Cee Silencer may be in my future. Something equal in height to a 13" or 14" would do wonders on a cold day I think.

If I lived in cold country, you know, where it gets below 80, :D I think this shield would be a must have for certain months out of the year.

Joe has made me a "cut down" silencer..will pick it up Tuesday. Not sure exactly what he did, but if it looks/works good I will post. He originally wasn't really excited about it, but on the phone few days ago he seemed to really like it.

Does the Silencer lean back toward the driver like the Dragon does? Being very tall I want the biggest shield I can buy and I'm sure I can see over the silencer but I really like the concept of the dragon that brings the lip of the shield closer to the driver.

I currently have the original tall Victory shield that measures 17 inches which would be 19 - 20 the way Cee Baileys are made. I want something that will get the air over the top of my head better.

I've had the silencer for about 2 weeks. I went from the 20" dragon to this. I'm 6'3", but I only have a 31" inseam. Very short legs. I sit up pretty straight against my backrest, and the dragon ends at my chin.

The silencer is just above my forehead. The upper edge is just in the top of my vision.

The silencer does not angle back at the rider like the dragon. Its shaped like a more traditional shield.

I have about 400 miles on the silencer now, and I find it sends all of the air over my head. No buffeting at all with my full face or my half helmet. I get a tiny bit when I put on my soft lowers, but only with the full face helmet.

This thing is great for cold weather.
