Default darksidE believer? now i am.

Ok never thought I would try it, then I decided to. I went with a 195/55/16 ventus v2. Its not a run flat. Initial ride I noticed a. Much softer ride. I was surprised how little of a difference in the feel. Its very tame compared to what you and I would think if you've never tried it. After 1000 miles now I am glad I did it. I ride 2 up and dragged the boards in Sequoyah park last weekend. I have not had any feeling of Instability at all. Intact I live in the country and the wet grass and gravel roads are nothing now.

TODAY- What made me a believer.

I was doing 65 in a 65 down 244 Tulsa to sandsprings.there is a blind down hill sweeping turn that I've negotiated many times in my life. You cannot see the road until your in the turn and topping the hill. 2 lanes in in the left nobody next to me thank goodness. As I top the hill at speed immediately I see a cattle truck has dropped cattle piss and diarrhea all over both lanes. PUCKER..i had only time to glance my mirror for right lane traffic. None. I held my line and just as much as the curve would let me I leaned up an just gently (as I'm going through the shit) and acquired the right lane in a slow manner. I felt the frt tire wavering and sliding. The back never wavered at all and I was in a good lean. I finally got through the mess and I was now on or in the dry shoulder next to barrier wall but not up on it. I was good now plenty of traction and so I just steered back into the lane. That's when the hackles raised up on my neck that was to close.

So the frt was wiggling slipping and had good tread for 8000. The back held its own. I know that I know if it would have been a MT on the rear I would have been down like once before in a turn on water. This was greased cow shit. I am a believer in how much more traction this CT gave me in this situation.

Just wanted to give a first hand experience that I had today. I for one will never go back to a MT.

2013 black XCT.

Damn, glad to hear you made it out of the shit...literally.

Hankook Ventus V2? Any reason you went with the v2 and not the v4? Just curious as I'm looking at these now too.

I am really starting to want a darkside tire for mine. We ride 2 up and we are, umm, not small people.

That's good info. I was sold on a C/T when I had my Wing ... in fact, I went double-D with it.

Soon as my rear tire wears out, I'll be running a C/T.

I have been on the Darkside since 2007 on my Goldwing then on our XCT since 2012. I had a similar situation ( but not with cow piss and shit ) but with anti freeze, while riding to Cherokee from Gatlinburg with some friends a few years back we were clipping along at a good pace when coming out of a turn my front tire was slipping a bit.

While at first I did not know the cause and we kept riding but at a slower pace. Each turn became more and more challenging and the front would still slip but the rear stayed planted firm. About a 1/2 mile up the road just pasted the state line there was a Mazda on the side of the road with the hood up and steam coming out of the radiator. Definitely a weird felling and a scary one when it happens, glad your ok and you made it home safe..

The Darkside is not for everyone, but I'll keep my run flat car tire on my XCT until something better comes along.

So do you take the wheel and tire to a car tire shop or your bike shop?
