Default Rock hits bike

I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to. Anyway, going down the interstate today I had a rock kicked up that hit the fairing and then bounced on the front fender. The damage to the fairing at the directional light arm is a chip that went threw the paint. The fender has about a 1/2" scratch threw the paint. My question is which type of touch up paint do most perfer the paint pen or the small brush. I have used the pen before on a car and didn't like the way it came out unless there is a certain way to do it that I don't know about. Also should I put clear nail polish on bare metal until I get this taken care of and if so should I remove clear coat before touch up? Any suggestions will be appreciated. My bike is pearl white.

Minus the fairing damage the same thing happened to my XR when it had less than 500 miles on it so I feel your pain. The good part is now you have your first damage so light scratches and small chips don't matter as much anymore.

You can get touchup paint from the parts dept at your dealer. They can order touchup sizes, shakey cans, and quarts. The bad part is that you can't order a single unit in any of the sizes, you have to buy two. So I suggest getting the shakey cans as they last much longer than the touchup sizes. To use the shakey cans as touchup just spray a little in the cap.

For the best results get a dupliclor touchup kit. The kits come with sanders, primer, spot putty, and clearcoat.

My local dealer recently ordered and sold me a single spray can of 'turbo silver' touch up paint for my 07 Vegas. That sounds really odd that yours would insist that you buy two at a time. With it I just spray a little onto some tin foil and then apply it to the bike with a fine brush. Eventually once I get too many scratches and chips I'll just get the whole bike custom painted a different colour.

You can never match pearls with a brush, they are tri coats and you would need the base coat the top coat and the clear and maybe the colored primer if used in production. Spraying the entire damaged item is hard enough. Painting for 50 years.

I have to grow old but I don't have to grow UP.thumb up. 2010 Jackpot.

Every time I used a touch up kit, it looked like, well, like I touched it up. How about a disguise, like a decal or pin or whatever?

I thought about maybe getting a custom paint job on the fender, maybe some kind of design or something but, if I did that then fender would look out of place. Busajack is correct about trying to match pearl white, it's not going to work. All I could think of is just filling in the gouge with touch up paint. It makes me sick looking at it.
