Unhappy No riding for at least six weeks.

I was working out last night and I tore my bicep and part of my chest. According to doctor it's gonna take at least six weeks to get my arm use back. Luckily for me it doesn't look like it's major tear so I might not need a surgery.

Thanks Taz. Looks like you had a very similar tear. At the moment my bruising mainly at the top of my bicep right below the shoulder.

Tore the biceps tendon at the elbow. I was off work and the bike for 3 months.

I know what you're feeling.

Ouch! That's much worse. I'm sure you had the surgery. How does your bicep looks now? I know if you wait to attach it back it rolls up like toilet paper and it never looks the same.

I didn't tear both tendons, but yes I did have surgery, and it looks funny. I work out pretty regular, but the strength has been slow coming back.

Well, that oughta keep you from trying to keep up with those 22 year olds, yes?

Just kiddin' man. That sucks big time. I'm sure other activities will be curtailed too.

At least you can still go down to the beach and look good.

I have a friend who was a weight lifter and had that happen to him playing softball. He had it tacked back down and it looks normal now. Of course the last time he went to the gym, he passed out and had to be rushed to the hospital due to a blocked artery in his heart. I told him to find less strenuous pastimes like sipping beer from a barstool. Those gymnasiums seem like dangerous places...

Snapped my upper right biceps tendon in half at the shoulder 18 years ago; tore the right biceps tendon off the bone at the elbow 2 1/2 years ago; tore the left biceps tendon off the bone last October. All have been surgically reattached. The latest surgery was performed in mid November; I was in a long splint/half cast for 8 weeks and have been rehabbing via physical therapy for the past 2 months. Took the bike out last week for the first time since the night before surgery in November. Felt good but don't want to rush it - don't have full strength yet and not ready to slug it out with idiots in traffic when I'm not 100%. Amazing how quickly the muscles deteriorate without use and how long it takes to restore them. Be patient - better to sacrifice some ride time now than to trash yourself as well as the bike by not being able to respond to some dumb-ass knucklehead on the road. For now, I just stay on my street and keep it simple - hard to do but it won't be long before I'm back at it full bore! Bottom line, this shall pass and you'll be back in the saddle soon! Hang in there - could be worse!!
