Red face New Vision and gas mileage

Howdy. My 1st post on this forum. Old guy with new Victory Vision Tour. I wanted something a little more comfortable for my age and I'm fairly certain I made a good choice. I have been reading other posts and learning but haven't seen too much about gas mileage. I'm probably not looking in the right place.
Anyway, old habits are hard to break and I don't trust gauges so have been trying to track my gas mileage using the trip odometer. During the 1st 500 miles, between 40-42. After the initial break-in, 38-42. I have started (what's the right word) stress testing a little and my last tank came up with 35 mpg. I'm fairly certain I have been filling the tank but it's possible I was shy the last time. Today, I knew my fuel was low, but the Vision would not start until I straightened it up. A little disconcerting but I made it to a gas station and apparently only had 0.25 gal. left. Lesson learned.
Does anyone else notice much swing in gas mileage due to riding style?

I notice it a lot in my new Cross Country Tour. The wrist really has a big deal on milage. But just everyday riding I am getting about 40.

I averaged 43.7 mpg this past weekend on the one tank I paid attention to.
175 miles and 4 gallons of fuel. 70% back roads cruising and the rest highway at 70 to 80 mph. The fuel gauge sucks big time.

Lot of variance with our XCT too...just me back and forth to work..I get around 40-45 mpg...two up on weekends with my wife, closer to 38-40. We took a short trip one Sunday heading straight into a 30mph headwind and at 75-80 mph, we got 24-28 on that stretch

Heck yes I do! Granted I don't ride a Vision, but I definitely notice a difference on my Vegas depending on how hard, and frequently I push it. Also as mcnor stated, wind has a big effect as well. I typically average 40-45/gl. Days that I really am feeling the power though it can drop, and it's a noticeable drop.

I vary between 32 and 42 on my XR. I only live 5 miles from work. If I just travel back and forth to work then I only get 32ish. The more highway miles I put on the higher mileage I get.

Sounds like I haven't seen the worst or the best mileage yet. Still breaking in at 1700 miles. I did get 41 mpg this morning. Still getting use to the fueling process also. But loving the bike. Feel sorry for my car.

I get 44 - 49 on my XR. I like to take it easy and just cruise w/ a big smile.
There is a group I ride with that's fast - all day long, some racing etc. I don't check mpg after those rides....

I'm getting about 43-45 with my vegas. I'm very happy with that. Its the same milage I got with my vulcan 800. Considering that its got more then twice the displacment that seems great to me.

Ditto. Filled up this morning and took note of mileage thinking of this thread. Last fill up was 3.5 gallons and gave me 43 miles/gallon. Very nice.
