Default Saddlebag Questions

I can't deny the practicality of saddlebags anymore. As much as I think they will detract from the look of my Vegas, until I pickup my Cross bike, I need some bags.

Here's my dilemma. Victory is a little too proud of their bags, so that option is pretty much nil for me. I am looking for aftermarket bags at a reasonable price. I've seen some posted on here and have read that they sit at funny angles, need to be modified to sit right, blahblahblah. Is there a reasonably priced set out there that just fits?? I was contemplating quick release brackets, but read here that w/out a full bracket (top to bottom), they kinda jiggle around. I don't like that either. So I guess I'm needing a fixed mounting style.

I've seen at least one person here with the Strong Bags. Does anyone else have these? If so, how do you like them? I think what I'm really looking for is feedback from those who have experience with theirs and other bags. Recommendations, what to look for, what not to look for, and what to stay away from. There are a shit ton of sites out there selling this stuff, but if they have reviews, I don't trust them. Too easy to fabricate bogus reviews to boost your own sales.

Finish doesn't matter. Neither does size. As long as I can get at least one six pack in it, I'm good.

One more bit of criteria if I may; I would really like the top of the bag to match the curve of the rear fender. May sound silly, but it's important to me. An example is attached.

Thanks everyone.

Well, I got a set of charger slant bags from Vikingbags.com and I used the supplied mounting system that came with the bags. Sucked ! The bolts are too short to use, so I had to get longer ones, which seemed too long. I was afraid of the bolt hitting the tire, and I can't get my hand under the tire to check, so I ordered a set of easy brackets. They suck too ! The bags mount waaaaaay too far away from the fender, and look stupid. Also, the charger bags are designed in a way that wont allow you to mount them to a Kingpin that doesn't interfere with the way the bag lid opens if you mount them using the easy brackets at the height that a normal bag mounts. Make sense ? In other words.... I had to mount them higher that I wanted so the bag lid could open without binding the bag. They look dumb, no matter what I do with them I'm really disgusted with the bags, and the easy brackets. Good luck !

I had the same fight with myself for seb=veral months. The Victory bags are expensive when they are new. I found a guy on here who sold me his with the brackets for around $525. They are totally worth it. Just start stashing your money, it will build soon enough, the cheap stuff just doesn't work right.

I'm really sorry that happened and turned out that way Jayson. Unfortunately you are case in point. This is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Spending that cash and not only were they not satisfactory, now you are "disgusted". This kind of stuff makes me mad, and it wasn't even me.

Johnboy; I hear ya man. The problem with the Vic hard bags is that they only somewhat match the fender curve and cost 1k, unless found used. Their "soft" bags are pretty bad looking, and cost 6 bills.

I might sound too picky at this point, and maybe I am. But c'mon, this is my Vic, my Vegas, my pride and joy. My ride gives me nothing but the best, so I feel I should return the favor.

Thanks everyone.
The bags you show here in the pics look really good. Probably not the best for a week long ride, but for running around all weekend, they would probably do the trick.

Don't remember where the post was. But there's someone here that posted the installation process they went through to get bags that look like this (could be the exact same). Sounded a lot like what you went through. If I was better informed on the mounting and quality of these, I'd probably order them.

Damn,,,,wish I could find that post.

That's kinda what I was thinking. If it were me, I'd just put the Kingpin trunk on it if it would fit.

I washed the XR today and noticed how svelte it looked without the side bags from behind. Unfortunately, from the side, the trunk's fender mounting looks terribly unfinished without a bag to hide it. Still, I could almost live with that, but the tiny rear wheel looks absolutely silly from the side.

I think the Kingpin and Vegas would look pretty good with just the trunk. And the trunk is sooo much nicer than saddlebags for regular use and it's lockable.

Problem is, they are proud of their trunks too...

Default u.s. saddlebags

having the same dillemma with my highball, I'm thinking of going with true dual exhaust and then using u.s. saddlebags moulded bags, and mounting with ghost brackets. as far as i can tell this is the least cheesy/removeable setup, though not very cost effective. good luck.
