Default Key turn past the on position

So I was outside and my daughter tried to take the key out of my vegas for me. She turned it all the way clock wise past the on position and it came out fine, but my tail light remained on. Has this ever happened to anyone? If so is there a purpose for that?

That's so when you need to park in a precarious spot, such as beside a busy road at night, you can have the ignition locked, but the tail light on for safety. A common feature in European vehicles.

It leaves power on to other accessories as well. For the XC this means that you can leave your stereo on and remove the key. I like it because that "accessories" position also turns off the headlights so that it doesn't draw down power.
