I don't need no stinking tag

Friday night, I get home from work, do the family thing for a bit. After sitting around for a while watching my wife watch things on TV that I deem as foolish, I decide that I'm going for a short ride. I leave out temps are great, wind is better. I get in a rather enjoyable hour or so in the saddle. Get home, go to bed. Get up Saturday, go check on the bike............WTF, where is my tag. As a matter of fact, where is my bracket. Apparently, on my ride, my side mount bracket just broke off. I have no idea where it might be. The previous owner had installed a generic side mount that caused the bracket to bend and create a weak point. In the great state of NC, there is no way to order a replacement plate except in person. Office hours are Mon-Fri 8-5. I work out of town Mon-Fri. Now, I either have to go through all of the power of attorney BS so that my wife can get a replacement or take a day off. The day off portion, gonna be hard since I'm booked solid until the first week in August. When I finally do get a tag, I don't have a mount. The side mounts that are made specifically for our bikes are extremely over-priced. The best "deal" that I have found is $175, for a bracket, a damn bracket. So, with my ghetto ingenuity I decided there is no way, I'm going to wait until mid-August before I ride again. Went in my little shop, performed side street surgery with a few pieces of sheet metal that I had laying around. Then remembered that since I ordered a specialized plate in January, my old plate is still in the house. So, for now I have a not so truly legal tag and a bracket that will most likely hold up (fingers crossed) until I get the right stuff again.

Sorry for my rant.

If anybody has a good lead on a decent side mount license plate bracket, please let me know.

I lost a passenger once!
My mate was very drunk and on the back of my Yamaha XS650, XS2 with 6 inch overs and a 750 kit to be exact.
We had been drinking my homebrew beer that ran around 10% by volume, and we werent far from home. Him and his lady lived next door to me and my lady and we lived waaay out in the scrub.
This was 30 years ago too, well I was drunk enough to be stupid and not too drunk to be able to ride, and my mate on the back was extremely drunk but still able to walk and sit on a bike.
Not far from home was a wooden bridge and as we crossed it in first gear I revved the Yam up and it roared thru the drag pipes. My mate let out a yahooo! And I revved it again and dumped the clutch to spin the wheel on the wooden bridge.
But...
It gripped...the ancient Avon Roadrunner grabbed the wooden bridge planks and shot my bike forward the front wheel heading for the sky!
I regained control but not before poor drunken Clarrie had flown backwards off the bike, dressed in boardshorts and flip flops and landed on his arse in the middle of the bridge.
He didnt spill a drop of the 26 oz. beer bottle he had in his right fist!
Dunno the moral of this story.

Crummy, bro...thankfully in az I can just go online and order whatever I need...I feel you on the overpriced aspect of a lot of aftermarket parts for our bikes. I simply do not understand why this **** is so expensive...and before some dipshit chimes in with "you gotta pay to play" or some other insightful horseshit, it's not about not having money, it's the principle behind ridiculous overcharging for much smaller items...I can get LED taillights for my mustang for $300, LED taillight for my vegas, $275 and uses probably 20% of the materials. $550 for cat back exhaust, $650 for pipes for the bike...yikes...but, we'll pay it.

To each his own but for Pop I would either make up a cardboard plate with the registration numbers and expiration date written on it or run no plate and take my chances.

LEO has demonstrated a low opinion of running around sporting plate ID that is not the current variety.

Playing dumb and having a good story might work with your old plate and it's certainly prettier than cardboard. Thing is if they call in the metal tag during a tail or if it's parked at a Twin Peaks and they get back a bounce on status that may be a little much for some cops. A piece of a cereal box and a magic marker says "Hey, I know it ain't the real deal but we can agree that nobody is trying to run a game here officer."

Bad stories, losing a seat and a passenger.

I thought about the cardboard thing, but the temporary tag that they gave me is actually a permanent tag, it's still in date, and it's on the registration. I'll run it for another week or so until I can get my personalized plate back. I go a lot more places that the cops are keeping an eye on that Twin Peaks or the likes. I don't have any problems standing in front of a judge explaining my situation, I'd get a day off work for that :).
