Default Great Bates Boot

I have been using an excellent pair of Oxtar Matrix GTX Gore-Tex boots for many (10+) years. They've been excellent and extremely comfortable as well as 100% waterproof. But they're starting to get a bit slippery from the soles wearing down and smoothing out. Knowing how difficult replacing the old Oxtars would be, I've looked at many different boots over the last couple of years.

I decided to try a pair of Bates GX-8 Gore-Tex Side Zip boots. The link to them at the Bates website is here: Men - GX-8 GORE-TEX Side Zip Boot - Black Bates Footwear

I am more than impressed by their comfort, grip, ease of putting on/off and they're certainly water proof. Putting your feet down at a stop on the CCT with them is actually confidence inspiring. They grip the road that well, wet or dry. They also perform very well when walking or standing for extended periods of time. The soles are also very quiet on any surface I've been on either indoors or out. The boots are low cut in the back which also greatly adds to their comfort level no matter where I place my feet on the CCT floor boards. I wanted to try a pair a side zip boots and I'm very glad I did. Getting each boot to perfectly fit your foot, ankle and lower calf is a breeze and then the side zipper makes putting them on and off easy as can be.

I think these boots are designed for police and security work and they certainly rate very high with that crowd. I purchased them from a local Police/EMT Uniform/Gun/Ammo dealer that also sells to the public. They special ordered my size 11.5E and I paid $119 for them. No extra charge for the special order either. The 11.5 M I tried on at the store was a bit snug and I'm glad I got the 11.5 E. I was surprised to see the MSRP so high on the Bates website. But if you've checked out purpose built motorcycle boots lately, even the $174.95 MSRP is a bargain.

I don't know if I'll get 10+ years out of these Bates boots but I'll certainly look at another pair of Bates boots when needed.

Happy 4th of July 2015 America.

All the best,

Mark
