They buy them because they don't want their "friends" to make fun of them for riding something else or not include them in a ride. I am seeing quite a few Indians in my area though, seen 3 in one day last week and I have never seen 3 Vics in one day unless I was at a dealership.
"HD culture". Now THAT'S an oxymoron!

That Kool-Aid is an illusory drug alright.
Feeds on ego and the human desire to fit into a tribe.
An illusion of freedom, a sense of belonging.
All appeal to the human condition.
Its only natural really.

I agree, so what does that say about those of us who don't want to belong or fit in?!

Well dunno about you @TNXR but personally Ive never really desired to belong or fit in.
I think the term is misfit :-)
Ive noted on our Victory Indian runs that everyone has that individuality, and a strong sense of character, though I cant say I know any of them very well.
Theyre devoid of the bro, scooter, terminology thats a hangover from Easyriders magazine stories we sortve grew up with in the late 60's early 70's. quite a few of the HD bro clones for want of a better word seem to need that image that the Motor Company fosters.
Each to thier own of course.
Live at let Live.
Whatever the psychology of it all I'm happiest riding :-)

Back when I was bike shopping, I was at the H-D dealer seeing what they had to offer and I was handed a brochure that was as thick as the old Monkey Warts catalog. It showed all the bikes (of course) and people standing by them. The "people" were all in costume replete with do-rags, tats and piercings. Pass! Went to the Vic dealer, got a brochure and the folks in it were like those I choose to ride with.

I forgot where I saw it, or for which bike it was, but it was a HD brochure clearly suggesting the owner 'place their bike in a high-pedestrian area so other people can see how cool it is' or something to that effect.

When we have a bike-event here I'm always in the back somewhere as HD community is very big here ( i guess 30 to 1 ), but i am obligated to park somewhere in the front, then always some important dude that I do not know walks up to me and talks about how cool my Vic is ....

That says something about Vic's right ? It just looks different then the average Joe .... Sorry Mr. Joe no pun intended .

The most sold model here is Vision, it is just awesome and different ... Sins the vicshop opened here in 2013 no Hammer has arrived yet ... That is a pity . i think a lot of HD riders here will like the Hammer more ...

I'm in Schuylkill co. might as well be in Carbon or Lurzerne co. though. The only time I have seen others is at Victory riders meets. I know there is a Highball & Crossroads running around in the local area. Most guys were putting their bikes away for the year when I bought my Gunner..... So maybe I will run into a few in the spring.

I live right on the Berks/Schuylkill county lines and ride my Vic up that way a lot. I like riding to and around the Riverwalck and the Boatyard!👍
