Default Will Polaris Indian Do It?

With American Chopper making a comeback, do you think the business management team(s) at Polaris Industries would give them Polaris Indian motors to build a bike around? When this show and the others were in their prime, I always thought Polaris should have given them all enough Freedom 106" engines to build as many of the bikes they could. IMHO, that would have been a fantastic move to promote Victory Motorcycles and would have gone a long way towards building their own brand. GM, Ford and Dodge all make their engines, in various builds, readily available. H-D doesn't because IMHO they've been so copied and improved upon so much they have nothing to offer. The after market builders like S&S, Rev Tech etc make far more powerful H-D clone engines than H-D. Certainly clone in aesthetics if not internally.

But my guess is that Polaris won't give them Polaris Indian engines because they'd lose control over what the bikes will look like and how they would function. But if Polaris really cared about building the name they built or the name they bought, they'd make crate engines in multiple forms readily available to anyone who wanted one. At a price very competitive in todays market.

Whenever I see a 'custom' built bike with an S&S, Rev Tech or similar motor the first thought I get is: custom painted parts book bike. It then forces me to look closer and try to see what's been ordered from various makers catalogs and assembled versus what's truly been made and is unique. Too often the only real difference is the paint job.

Anyway, getting back to the original question. It certainly could be the legal team of liability lawyers that will keep Polaris out of this segment of the market.

All the best,

Mark

I didn't know American Chopper was making a comeback!? That was one show I really liked when it first came out because it showed them actually building a bike for a real customer. As the years went by it got to be sponsorship bikes and barely showing how they were built and instead focusing on the family's problems. That was when I quit watching it and now that I have dropped cable I guess I won't have to worry about it.
Polaris makes all the wrong decisions it seems so I am sure they won't offer their engine up as a crate engine.

Polaris may not, but they can get one anywhere for cheap. 1 thing I have noticed is p!ss poor resale on those bikes. I see 23K bikes from 2017 with low mileage running for 13-14K.

What would be fun is a Vic all done with a Lloydz Big Build or another huge build by a Vic builder to push the values of our bikes up lol.

A nice big build turbo would smoke the TV screens and people might be looking for used Vics to build?

Plus it could give some of the indy shops a boost in parts sales down the line which is always a good thing.

I know it's tough to play the 'Imagine What If' game. But had Polaris given Freedom 106" engine/transmission units to Lloyds, KMC, The Vic Shop or Southern Motorworx for them to convert into a Big Block, Turbo or a Supercharged system I suspect Victory Motorcycles would have been 30% larger than it was in Jan 2017. Polaris may not have even gone after the Indian brand etc etc etc. Oh well, Polaris blew it, simple as that.

Next up is; will Polaris Industries bid on the rights to the Excelsior-Henderson brand name this month when it goes up for auction in Las Vegas?

All the best,

Mark

Polaris is a lame ass company. They wouldn't even build horsepower parts. They let others do it. How much money did Lloydz make off Vic's with his cams and so on.
The Tuttles were a modern day Sanford and Son. Yes the old man sold the Discovery channel a good idea. The Tuttles had a lots of lawsuits against them like the s&s bike.
Revtech motors are not good ask anyone with a old Indian

One of the issues with using a "factory supplied" oem motor is it would have to comply with EPA specs. With an aftermarket like S&S not so much.

'For Off Road Use Only' should be able to get around that. I'm not sure if the engines would need a DOT version of a serial number or not. But my Freedom 106 doesn't have a 16 digit serial number anyway.

There aftermarket company and only making one bike so it would not need to be EPA unless when they titled it and there state had that requirement
