Default Need help choosing a rear tire for my Vegas

So my 2012 Vegas failed inspection due to rear tire when, so I thought no big deal, I'll hop online, order a new set be ready to go in no time. Two days later I think I'm going to have an aneurism from looking for a tire that will work. I'm trying to avoid the stock D417 as the consensus is that they offer some of the worst performance (though they do have the benefit of being astronomically over priced as they only seem to be available from dealers), but every other tire I've looked at that seems to fit the dimensions (180/55 18)isted in the manual keep coming up as "doesn't for your bike". Upon further inspection, the only differences I noticed were either the load limit (most are higher than OEM) and radial instead of bias ply. My question is two part, first, as long as the size dimensions are correct, and the load/speed ratings equal or higher, I should be able to have the tire mounted, correct? And second, am I better off going with a bias ply with a higher load limit (and if so, should I not exceed a certain limit? For instance I'm looking at set of Shinko's but the load limit is 1100lbs vs the recommended 850lbs) or a radial?

As long as load/speed meet or exceed OEM you should be good to go.

As long as the size dimensions are correct, and the load/speed ratings equal or higher, I should be able to have the tire mounted, correct? *Motorcycle tire = Yes

Am I better off going with a bias ply with a higher load limit. *You might even go with a lower load limit, but then would need to pay more attention to your load. If you plan a lot of large loads a higher load limit would be in order, keeping in mind that load limitations apply in part to the rest of the motorcycle (suspension, front tire, etc.) as well.

You can also buy a tire that will work just fine that is the same, as far as rim size fit, but different diameter and width. Check the difference here - https://tiresize.com/comparison/. Be sure the tire will fit under the fender w/o rubbing.

DennisKirk, which seems to have forgotten about Victorys, has Tech folks who can tell if the tire will fit or not. # = 320.358.1914. Their tire prices are competitive and I have had good luck with their service and products.

Some tire data below.

Front Tires Rear Tires
metric alpha inch metric alpha inch
80/90 MH90 2.50/2.75 110/90 MP85 4.00/4.75
90/90 MJ90 2.75/3.00 120/90 MR90 4.50/4.75

120/90 MR90 4.25/4.50 140/90 MU90 5.50/6.00
130/90 MT90 5.00/5.10 150/80 MV85 6.00/6.25
150/90 MV85 6.00/6.25

Motorcycle Speed Ratings
J Type 62
H Type 130
N Type 87
P Type 94

Do you really plan on going over 130mph? If so, buy accordingly.

I Like the Dunlop Elite IV. If you are buying the Shinko 777 get the Shinko 77HD. Same tread design but more depth to the tread.

Ride safe and enjoy.
