I have a 2004 Vegas and if the engine starts slow on a cold day, it will run fine but the check engine light will come on and stay. There is nothing wrong with the engine, just the computer did not see all the signals it need to go off. Shut the engine off and restart, the light will go out.
Good luck, hope this helps.
This has happened on my 04 Kingpin a number of times too. Haven't seen it on my 11 XC yet though. Maybe they refined the system or maybe I've just been lucky so far.
16-17 year bikes have a service bulletin out for ecu update on oxygen sensor issues.
