Default Please Help Me Choose

Hello All,
I am new to the site and I am doing some research before I purchase a new ride. I have narrowed my choice down to the Victory Cruiser line but still have a tough choice to make. I have been on the Jackpot, Vegas 8ball and Kingpin 8ball. I really like the look of the Jackpot but who doesn't. I haven't been on a bike for a long period of time since I was a teenager. I have been in the Army for 25 years and want to get back into riding again. So my question is which bike will give me the most comfort and enjoyment in the long run? The most I would probally ride is about 200 mile in a day and mostly on the weekend. Also, I have never been on a bike with a rear tire as big as the one on the the Jackpot except during the test ride. It seemed fine during the test ride but I wasn't going that fast. If I bought the Jackpot, would it be that hard to adjust to the tire?

I am not stuck on any one bike just want to hear from someone who may be able to guide me in the right direction. I know it my choice but I just wanted to know which bike you thought would be the most comfortable and still be an eye grabber. Any help you guys can give on this forum will be very much appreciated.

When I bought my Jackpot and went for the first ride I forgot about the fat back tire and really didn't notice much of a difference from my previous 180mm back tires except at very slow speeds (<5 mph).

Also, when I did the same as you did I started out on a Suzuki Marauder 800 to get used to riding again but out grew it in 6 months. It was good to get reacquainted with ride on a smaller bike but perhaps not financially viable.

If you can't get a cheap bike or a loaner for a little while then I say get what you want so there are not regrets (do it right the first time). Just take your time and I suggest a rider safety course, I am an experienced rider and I picked up a thing or two.

It's a personal choice but I can share how I decided and why.

I rode as a kid, too. Itallian mostly with a big Kawi as my last one. Now in my 50's, I started dating a girl who owned a Dyna Low-Rider. After months of pestering me to go for a ride with her, I gave in and I rode Cupcake just to shut her up. Well, . the bug bit me again and I started takin her bike to the store, . offering to run errands for her on it etc. I decided I had to get one.

But not a H/D. Hrer friends are great folks till they start talkin bikes and then they become elitist snobs. And her bike leaks oil like a sieve, vibrates uncomfortably and she paid waaay too much for it I think. Wanted american so checked out Vic's and was sold.

After reading everything I could get my hands on, cruising the M/C forums and a few test rides, it came down to the Jackpot and the Hammer. (but the Hammer really sang to me) After reading kevinx's posts about the differences in the bikes, I decided the little extra clearance and stopping power of the Hamer might come in handy some day. I'm not interested in bagging or even a windshield. (I'm going to add the superfly cowl however.) I can put everything I need for a long weekend in a small bag and strap 'er down on the rear seat. So a Hammer it is, . . for me.

Now I just have to find the right deal. One of diamond's posts made an impression on me. He said he bought his Jackpot with the idea of making some pretty extensive mods and his only regret was perhaps not looking into getting a used one. So that's what I'm looking for because I too want to make some big changes, front and back. New raked forks and a swingarm mod.

Just make a list of what it is you're looking for in the riding experience and you'll find something in the Vic line to make it happen. Best of luck!

Guys,
Thanks for the replys and the advise you have given. I am currently ridding a loaner that my buddy has been so kind to allow me to ride. I have also taken the Motorcycle Riders Safety Course which helped me get back in the swing of things. For me it is basically between the Vegas Jackpot and the Vegas 8Ball. The Hammer is a little to aggressive for me. It kind of reminds me of a sport bike setup type of deal just in a cruiser body. I guess I will have to go and test ride the two again and make a decision.
However, I still would like to hear from other Victory owners who have had to decide between the cruiser lineup on how they picked their ride. Any and all information you guys can provide me will be of great help.

Default Hammer 8-Ball

Big Al - I have the Hammer 8-Ball and like it a lot. It is a more traditional looking, blacked out Hammer. Dynamite bike, less expensive than most Victories, and to my eye, more appealing. Worth your consideration. Definitely take a test ride - our local dealer here is happy to do this, and it makes all the difference. I was looking at Harleys too, but the attitude turned me off. I'm just not into rides with packs of identically clothed, identically biked weekend riders who think they are tough because they frown a lot. No offence or disrespect intended if that is your thing - to each his own, I say (with a smile). The Victory is a great ride.

I found both the vegas and the pot rode the same in terms of comfort, turning slight difference. I enjoy the fact that both the vegas and the pot have the abilitity to put bags on for longer trips and still look good. When my cousin (vegas) and buddys (hammers) are out riding people notice my Jackpot. The comments are insane. People love the "combination" look of the hammer and vegas. Very showy bike. Ultimately, you need to be happy. I am estactic with my choice, the comfort of the vegas and the showiness of the hammer.

I got back into riding this year after a 15 year pause. I was really interested in a Cross Country. The dealers didn't have any yet so I looked at the Kingpins. Two dealers had the same 2009 Kingpin Premium. Blue, White, and alot of Chrome. I went with the lower price, $1600 less and added a few things. I couldn't be happier, My wife never rode before and was very nervous. After I got comfortable with the bike she went out for a few short rides. She can now handle 4 or 5 hours in a day with a stop or two for lunch or coffee. Next to her, it's the best choice I've made in a long time!

Come on guys I know there are more members who can chime in on this topic. I am trying to make a well informed decision for my first bike. Any and all input will go along way in helping me make the best decision possible.

Putting the test ride and personnal choice aside, I just want to know how current owners feel so come on and chime in. Also, follow diamond's lead and post a pic to give that visual touch.

I have had my Kingpin for a year or so. I was going to buy a softtail.
The local HD dealer didn't seem to care whether I was there to buy a bike or not. So I went over and test rode a Kingpin and loved it.
I like the balance, the looks, the power, pretty much everything about it. Except one thing, the dealer here doesn't seem to have a great Vic mechanic. SO I do my own maintenance.
The only problem I have had was, the tps was way off when I bought it and it took the dealer 3 tries(trips to the dealer) for them to figure it out.It turned out that the battery went dead over the winter before the PO traded it in on a new Kingpin,and somehow that messed up the tps setting. Once the TPS was set right, it ran great.

The bike is solid, so I haven't really had any real problems with it and I'll be hitting 20,000 miles within a month. I bought it with 11,400 miles on the clock.And plan on lots more.
Great bike. JMHO though
Good luck shopping. AT least it is a buyers market right now.
