Default First 500 Mile Service

Hi, just bought a 2012 Highball with low miles [repo] in the US for my upcoming ride. Runs out of warranty just before we get there in July. Is the first 500 mile service free?

No. Even if the dealership included it in the purchase price, you still paid for it.

Enjoy the new ride, there are MANY miles left in that one.

Ride safe.

It's only free if the dealer doesn't charge you or you do it yourself and get someone to donate the oil and filter.

And even if they do the 500 mile service more than likely they will not do all that is required. Most just change the oil and put some wd-40 on the kickstand and send you on your way a few hundred dollars lighter. Do it yourself and you will know it is done right and you will save a few bucks as well.

You have until July Get a Manual, Study it and know it's done right by doing it yourself .. I had my 500 done by the Dealer but then the Service Manager at my Dealers is a pretty well known Wrench .. Just did the last one myself, and ready for the Ozarks trip coming up now ..

Get real guys. He will be here with no tools so we are talking things as simple as a wrench or a drain pan being an extra cost and oil disposal is not all that easy, especially if you don't know the local resources. Get the dealer to do that 500 miles service. It is a one time cost that you will need soon after purchase of the bike, with an aggressive tour schedule like yours. Maybe as soon as on day 2.

And do not forget to ask if they did the re-call on your bike. Throttle cable clamp check on throttle bodies was not torqued right at the factory. So you need to have it checked to make sure it was done..
