Default Whine from left side

This has happened a few times recently. Today riding on interstate in 6th, I got on the throttle, I heard a left side whine, the gear indicator dropped to 5th, RPMs, raced and whined until I left off, then gear indicator bounced back to 6th.

I downshifted to 5th and got on it, and it did the same thing dropping into 4th. Roads were wet, but it was not breaking traction.

Has anyone experienced that? It is a Victory XC with 18,500 miles.

Oh, I thought you were wondering where the proper placement of the glass was. FYI anyway, it goes above the knife on the right.
