I just moved from a Sporty 1200 Low to a Vic Cross Roads. Obviously, that's not the bike you're looking at, but I'd imagine there's some similarities. At 5'6" tall, I'm also "vertically challenged."
On my Sporty, I had a Mustang Vintage Solo seat, which put me lower and more forward than the stock H-D seat. The seat height between that and the Cross Roads is very similar, maybe even the same height. The stock Cross Roads seat is wider up front, but you probably won't have that issue on the Vegas.
Like KevinX mentioned, the center of gravity on the Sportster is really high. I was surprised how much lower the Cross Roads rode, and, in spite of being significantly longer and heavier, handles far better at any speed. Only exception: parking lot speed, naturally.
