Default Clutch lever very hard to squeeze

My clutch cable broke a couple of weeks ago. I ordered the Barnett cable and replaced it last weekend. I adjusted the adjusting nut until the lever had 10-15 mm of play. I bought the bike used with 2100 miles and it has 6500 on it now. So I know the original cable was pretty easy to pull the lever. This thing now is really tough to pull.

Do you guys think I still may have adjusted it too tight?

Also I can release the lever to about 1/4 left of travel before the bike (for lack of knowledge) kicks in or grabs the gear.

squze the lever a couple times then readjust. Do this in morning when bike is over nigh cold.
You can't adjust clutch when its warm or hot. Did you lube your lever.

Unbolt the lever slide that out and grease the pivot point
